Advent Arising

orchidee

Tune: Veni Emmanuel

('O come, O come, Emmanuel')

Isaiah 9 v.6-7

*******

The Advent hope is sure, a song

Raise, for the Lord will not be long

Will come to bring salvation's day

And sin and evil put away

Chorus

Emmanuel, He be God with us

His grace and mercy shown to us

For unto us a child is born

Unto us the Dayspring does dawn

Unto us a son is given

Jesus, God's Son, who comes from heaven - Chorus

The government shall be upon

His shoulders, He the reigning one

His name shall be called Wonderful

Counsellor, The Mighty God all - Chorus

The Everlasting Father, He

And too The prince of Peace He be

Of the increase of His governing

And of peace there no end, we sing - Chorus

It shall be upon throne of David

His kingdom ordered, not be hid

And it established with judgement

And with justice with no relent - Chorus

From henceforth e'en for ever, see

His eternal rule, reign, shall be

The zeal of the LORD God of hosts

Will this perform, unto earth's far coasts - Chorus

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre for Verses, and 8.8. for Chorus. Some longer musical notes allow for extra syllables to be included here and there. I have aimed to stay as close as possible to the Old Testament prophet Isaiah's actual words.

Very good write Orchi and very close to the original words.

Thanks Gold. Have to adjust in places, to get it to rhyme - if I must always rhyme? Don't have to rhyme, I suppose.

Did Miss Berles sing along to this?

      • orchidee

Yes M. She added a couple of extra syllables too along the way - if ya got time to count them in each line, you will find them! It will be a bit 'sad' and boring to do though. lol.

Thanks UNCLE STEVE : For me (ANGELA) one of the sweetest ADVENT HYMNS beautifully presented and voiced in your Video !
Great paraphrase on Isiah ~ AMEN
For me the WORD EMMANUEL very fluid like HONEY !
        Love ANGEL🧡🧡🧡🧡

          Orchi,

A fine write! I read it to my aunt and it reminded her of the four weeks of Advent! She told me to set up the Advent wreath for Sunday which is two days before Advent begins! That was my good deed for the day! We enjoyed listening to the beautiful rendition of “Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel”!
          Thank you for sharing.

And you're the mighty God of poetry, my friend. Perfectly placed. I loved reading this work.

            • orchidee

Thanks Kevin. Me 'hymn-book' won't be sung in some modern places. Some don't know what a hymn book is even! Though I'm open to traditional and modern songs, if not endlessly repetitive with 'choruses'.

Be blessed with that then, my friend.
