He often knocks on my door,
Sometimes it is a parcel for me,
But mainly the parcel
Will be for a neighbour.
We are normally always in
So we seem to collect
Many parcels for our neighbours,
This is not a problem,
Just part of being neighbourly.
This one man though
Is an enigma to me,
He knocks at the door
Asks if I could take the parcel.
There he stands,
A smile on his face,
Turban on his head,
Beard on his chin.
We chat,
And there I am
Expecting an Indian accent,
But no,
His accent is broad Glaswegian!

Doh! We never know sometimes. A fine write Gold.
Thanks Orchi.
A parcel has arrived for us here. We missed them twice, but I don't think they left a notification card to tell us they called. Bit naughty! We only found out via e-mail.
Thanks UNCLE ANDY : I (Angela) love the song / poem about the BRICKS ! In my opinion the Building Trade is one of the most dangerous ! It provides me with many Clients and Brickies love a
TOP to TOE massage ! Taking in Parcels for Neighbours is part of UK Courtesy and may it ever be that way. In our Flat in Auckland there is a large lobby where all the parcels are left ! In these days of multiethnicity : You can never judge a Persons accent by his Skin or his Sombrero !
Thanks A and B, yes it is so true that we must be able to accept all people even if that do surprise you sometimes - I do.
I've still got the original Geard Hoffnung recording i
of the brick song - it had me in stitches back in the early 1960s and still does - the anticipation of what's coming. And I recognise the write - it's great to hear an east Asian with a cockney accent - no disrespect just admiration how they have embraced a different culture.
Yes I too have the Gerard Hoffnung recording as well, it was so funny firts time I heard it and its humour has not dimmed at all.
The embracing of different cultures is amazing - after all I am a Man of Kent embracing the Asum (Evesham) culture, I have only been here 19 years so I am still an incomer.
From the drawing of our first breath we are conditioned and shaped by the society and culture in which we are predominantly raised... tis a good thing many of the boundaries, stereotypes and prejudices of old are gradually being broken down... I raise my glass to the tolerances I anticipate tomorrow...... a splendid observation captured and now of course preserved for eternity .... Neville
Thank you Neville, those tolerances can be so wonderful when we share each others cultures, beliefs and differences. If only the world could see how good it could be.
I wholeheartedly agree in the principle of respecting different values and beliefs.. after all, who am I to assume I got it right every time...
Andy,
I enjoyed the song! A very catchy tune that keeps playing in my head!:)
A fine write that most of us can relate to and embrace! Thank you for sharing!
My love to Joyce and you!

Thank you Laura, The Bricklayer is an old tale, here is the original version that I heard so many, many years ago, I hope that you enjoy it.
