ESCAPE by HUGO

Michael Edwards

ESCAPE (by Hugo)

I wake up to the rainforest sounds

Humming birds damp wet grounds

I breathe in the forest air

Wind in my eyes, dirt in my hair.

I get up ready to explore

I don’t miss one bit being indoors

I’m out here now one with nature

Last thing I said to my friends was ‘See you later’

I put on my muddy khaki shirt

Wearing it again for another day won’t hurt

I put on my hiking boots and start to run

Today’s adventure is going to be fun.

I pass the ruins and the temple too

They were a tourist attraction before the vines grew

My Grandpa said they’re deadly and constrict you

Leaving you unconscious and praying to be rescued.

    Michael,

    Wow...
    that is an awesome poem!
Congratulations to the amazing and talented Hugo!
I see the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree! Does he paint, too? The whole family (especially grandpa, Michael) must be so, so proud of your amazing grandson!

I enjoyed the poem very much! I thought it was your write...until I read your comment!

Such an honor for Hugo to have his poem published in an anthology of children’s poetry!

    ~Laura~

P.S. - Love the painting, grandpa!

We are proud of him. He stopped over last night and is a real young gentleman - a real pleasure to have him. He saw your your review before he left and was really chuffed (as we say here in the UK) . I was as well - thanks for your very generous comments Laura.

        You’re very welcome!

I honestly thought it was penned by you and I meant every word I said in my comments!

I’m loving some of your UK words/expressions! I’ve actually used some of them. I’m compiling a list!

Ah Laura - you must share it with me. One of the difficulties is that we take them for granted not knowing if they are recognised or indeed used beyond our shores.

A fine write there by Hugo!
About that apple tree of Laura's - you got all your sandwiches? I'm one short of a picnic, as they say!

Cheers Orchi - Not sure about the sandwich - still suffering from the direct hit on the noddle by a Granny Smith.

He will indeed - while here he was doing homework and revising for a test tomorrow.

A very conscientious boy, you must be very proud of him.

Nicely penned Hugo. Your grandpa taught you well.
