WHO'S SPEAKING?

Michael Edwards

WHO’S SPEAKING?

The darn phone wouldn’t stop ringing

so I picked it up and  I asked ‘Who’s speaking?’

In reply the voice on the other end

sternly responded   ‘Well you are my friend!’

    You spotted me then.

The artwork is yet another style of yours that I cannot remember seeing before - I like it.

Thanks Andy. It was first drawn in indian ink applied with a stick from the hedgerow and then watercolour washes were added.

      Oh lol M. There's a Laurel(L) & Hardy(H) clip:
H: 'Who was that on the phone?'
L: Oh some guy saying 'It's a long distance (call) from Australia'. So I replied 'It sure is!'
H: 'Doh! I wish they would put an end to people mucking about on phones!'

And Spike Jones who answered the phone and kept replying to the person on the other end:
        'You don't say' .
When he put the phone down he was asked who he was speaking to to which he replied:
        'I don't know, he didn't say'

I bet it's Miss Berles mucking about, checking how many syllables people use in phone calls. I'm off volunteering again today. We're in safe hands with these future medical staff, that the volunteering is relating to! Nothing swoony, we're not examined! lol.

I once worked in an office opposite a guy called Ron Dyer ... When his 'phone rang he'd pick it up and say "Dyer 'ere!" How we laughed!

Now that really did give me a laugh _ cheers CM

            Michael,

In Italy, when we answer the phone we say, “Pronto!”(literal translation—“Ready”!) When I came to America, I once accidentally answered the phone with “Pronto!” The caller said, “For what?!” 😂

            Your painting is extraordinary!
            Thank you for sharing!

            Hope you’re doing well.

I might try Pronto. Pleased you like the painting.
Yes doing well - had the staples out this lunch time and see the Consultant for a review tomorrow evening.

              • Laura🌻

Glad to hear you’re doing well! All the best with tomorrow’s consultation!

                Yes, I love the painting!

Oooh - Mike I have done that before now and received a similar chastisement - Gasped at the beautiful painting - Smiled at the verse and laughed aloud at that latest comment - - "Dyer 'ere' eh - what a challenge hearing that to keep a straight face -

What a laugh. My friend from Italy says when the phone rings in her house her elderly mother picks it up and doesn't say anything. This frustrates the person on the other end. Her daughter asked her why she did this and she said "crank calls." If they don't know you're on the line, they can't pull any of their pranks or scams. 🙂

Love the India ink and watercolors in your painting

                • Michael Edwards

When it comes to crank calls i just ask for their number and say I'll phone them back- it stumps them and I've never been given a number yet.

No and you'll never get a number. One of my friends says she just starts preaching bible verses and they hang up. 🙂

I used to play a prank on my friends, and for a while it became a trend

When they'd call I'll say WHAT!
and make them repeat themselves. This will go on for 3 or 4 times, till they caught on - and we'll crack up

Light hearted, fun and enjoyed the comments too
