BREXIT - A WILFUL BETRAYAL?

Michael Edwards

ON MAY’S BREXIT PROPOSALS

Despite how May’s deal is promoted

Despite how May’s deal is presented

It’s still political farce

An arse is still an arse.

A BREXITEERS LAMENT

Despite the way the voting scored

the will of the people is being ignored

we voted to leave; no half measures here

yet most politicians are remainers I fear

who seem to think we voted half- in

and all the talk so far has been

about seeing just how far we can go

in maintaining and preserving the status quo

despite the fact we voted to leave

Parliaments energies seek to appease

the views of those who want to remain

subservient to the EU  reign

we voted to leave; no half measures here

yet most politicians are remainers I fear

despite the way the voting scored

the will of the people is being ignored.

CRASHING OUT?

We voted to leave by the front door

it’s not a case of crashing out

that’s what we voted for.

WAS IT ALL IN VAIN?

Two world wars were fought to preserve independence.

Many millions lost their lives to preserve sovereignty

Was it all in vain?

Armistice day was remembered by the country's population

World wide suffering to defeat a dominant power

Was it all in vain?

Decision making and law now the preserve of the EU courts

Germany the largest and most dominant power in the EU

Was it all in vain?

Was it all in vain?

Whatever your views about Brexit, those who voted to leave the EU are ignored by Parliament which is almost entirely pro Europe in make up and totally incompetent in progressing the aim of leaving. The only members of Parliament who profess to support Brexit, and who  are at best buffoons of the first order, do no favours in representing the views of the majority who voted to leave. These short pieces seek to point out the frustrations of this undemocratic process.

An excellent write Michael! Thank you for shedding some light on the situation. I’m in agreement with you on this one!
We’re having our own problems here in the USA and Italy too! What a mess!

Thanks Laura. I am not promoting Brexit as a point of view - but trying to make the point that almost every programme, debate, and Parliament itself all start from the starting point which arrogantly assumes the vote was not about a clean break with Europe but with maintaining many of the ties which bind us.

Anybody with any sense who voted for Brexit (despite the ridiculous Brexit campaign which was so badly conducted) realised that there would be no gain without pain. It now seems that we are doing all we can to avoid pain by negotiating a deal which does not deliver the outcome of the vote.

I am not suggesting that Brexit was the right outcome but merely trying to redress the balance between the two points of view.

Your share is very much appreciated, Michael!

The frustrations of the process are well achieved in your words Michael. Personally I voted to stay but the will of democracy said leave and for those who died to give us the vote I always abide by the decisions.
You are right in that those in parliament seem to want to remain, they should be doing the will of the people and not trying to satisfy their own personal beliefs.

Even this morning with the vote of no confidence being announced the politicians are still talking as if a half-in position is the starting point. One of the main problems is that we agreed to an exit bill at the start giving away our strongest negotiating point - just tell the EU we are withdrawing this and it's back on the table for discussion - play them at their own game..

Oohh as I say, the PM and hubby are often at a church only 2 miles from me, when not in Brussels, etc. Her constituency is fairly local to me.
Have to have a chin-wag with her one Sunday over coffee after church. But how? Goldie says 'If their lips move, they lie' Doh!

They don't always talk through their mouths - errrr..........

you have certainly captured a lot of peoples frustrations.. I certainly share some of them.. in particular the very short memory much of Europe now seems to have in respect of what role the UK played in ensuring that there was a future for most of them and the price the UK paid in blood and fiscal terms... my rant is over..

              • Michael Edwards

The whole debate is so open to different opinions I wonder if we'll ever be united again. Thanks Neville.

                • Neville

                  I wonder too

Look...whatever they try and foist on us for Brexit, I'm sticking to Weetabix! So they can all sod off as far as i'm concerned.

                  • Michael Edwards

Not muesli? I think we should hold a referendum - Weetabix or muesli - it could split the nation. 🙂

                    • dusk arising

I guess that judging by current debates the 'Muselis' would win on the basis that there are more nuts in museli.

                        Now you're milking it 🙂 🙂 🙂

I would prefer someone who represents the outcome of the referendum and not the views of the unrepresentative Parliament but there isn\'t anyone to do this - certainly not Boris or Moggy. Sadly May played her hand too early by giving away the payback at the outset leaving her with no bargaining chips so she ended up with a bad deal which will almost inevitably be voted down by Parliament. I forget the figures but to get 117 back benchers (out of about 165?) to vote against her shows she is not popular and it would have been far greater had she not said she will not put herself forward at the next election.
