Tune: God rest you merry

('God rest you merry, gentlemen')

Luke 1 v.11-17

*******

Zacharias in the Temple

An angel then did call

Unto him, and did so appear

He did angel see, hear

Then he was troubled and afraid

But still the angel stayed

Chorus

Comfort, Fear not, Zacharias

Your prayer is heard

I speak unto you now God's word

Your wife Elisabeth shall bear

A son, joys shall you share

And John (the Baptist) you shall call his name too

Many rejoice with you

For he shall be great in the sight

Of the Lord, in His might - Chorus

He shall not take wine nor drink strong

But be filled all along

With the Holy Spirit even

Before he is born, then

He shall witness, and turn many

To the Lord their God, see - Chorus

He shall go before the Lord sure

In the spirit, power

Of Elijah, prophet of old

Proclaiming true and bold

To turn hears of fathers (/parents) unto

The children, he shall do - Chorus

And to turn disobedient

To wisdom, penitent

The wisdom of the just, so be

A people ready he

Does make for the Lord all prepared

Their focus unimpaired - Chorus
