HAIKU OR SENRYU _ WHO CARES?

Michael Edwards

A COLLECTION

Picturesque landscapes

Coated in fabrics of oak

Commanding prospect.

Honeycombed ceiling

Arms declaring ownership

Moulded in plaster.

Equanimity

Content with functions of life

A broken heart healed.

Treated as coeval

Age conveyed no relevance

Together as one.

Options considered

in ideation gathered

decisions defined.

There are some intriguing verses there Michael, I like them all.

Strangely whether it is haiku, senryu or not is strangely one of the things that I bother about so here goes

    1 - haiku
    2 - neither
    3 - senryu
    4 - senryu
    5 - is a 5,8,5

to get over this problem where a 5,7,5 is neither I have used the term goldiku.

    • Michael Edwards

No I'm not really bothered but I do like goldiku best .

Fine Haikus or Senryus or Wotsits M. I'm busy fussing about metres and syllables!
I dunno if I'm on foot or horse-back. Or is it: Horse or foot-back?

      • Michael Edwards

I think it's fundament or the back part of the human foot below the ankle.

without doubt, you have displayed a fine collection here.. a few purists might argue, but hey, what the hell...

        • Michael Edwards

I guess purists could only argue if I was to label them individually but as you say - hey, what the hell - thanks N

            my pleasure sir

FI ! UNCLE MICHAEL ~ I had you clssified as Betjemannesque Purist. I teach Seniors "The Art of Poetry" and the diference betweem H (Nature) & S (Human Nature & Inanimate) ! Also I insist (in the classroom !) on 3 lines & 575 syllables. No. 4 is (6 7 5) and No. 5 (5 8 5) what in liverpool we called ZUMOSENRYU. If you were in my Class ~ I would mark you 8 / 10 ~ OK. My fave is No. 1 which is the only HAIKU ~ the rest (in my book) are SENRYU ! I have posted a Philosophical Senryu (A Confusryu) today please check ! Love the PINGUS ~ I print & blow them up for my niece (4) who is a Penguinophile ! CARTOONS ~ sans mots ~ are very good for kids to strech their imagination. Love through Poetry ~ BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

I was aware they don't all follow the generally held definition of 575 but I did say 'who cares' - if I was in a classroom I wouldn't submit them although of course the definition of morae itself is open to interpretation. So pleased you like Penguin family - they have been used in paintings and cards in the past.

That's a lot of …..roo's (….ryu's) and ….iku's. Are there any around this evening?

              • Michael Edwards

No I'm a square this evening. And you?

              • Laura🌻

                Michael,

I enjoyed your super ...iku’s and ...ryu’s(as Orchi labels them).

Of course, you know how much I love your Penguin series! Great whimsical art!

                ~Laura~

Your words in these haikus/senryus have a tremendous impact on the reader. I also love your accompanying artwork as it speaks to your wonderful talent. Great job, Michael.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
