Tune: Winchester New
('On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry')
Matthew 3 v.1-12 parts
**********
John the Baptist did come preaching
In Judea's desert did bring
Message of salvation, Repent
Ready for the Lord your intent
Repent, for the kingdom is near
Kingdom of heaven, godly fear
Have, for John he by the prophet
Isaiah was spoken, true yet
For he one crying, wilderness
His location, the Lord would bless
Those who prepare His way, make straight
His path, He comes, shall not be late
John's clothing was of camel's hair
Locusts, wild honey, was his fare
They of Jerusalem, Judea
Went to the Jordan him to hear
And to be baptised of him there
Confessing their sins, they did share
In repenting, then Christ, Day-Star
Would baptise with [the] Spirit and fire
