Evening Malt.

Goldfinch60

Which shall I try tonight?

I open the cupboard and they sit there,

These wonderful nectars from Scotland.

The Laphroaig shouts at me

As this is my favourite,

But the others are so wonderful.

Talisker the one I have seen brewed,

Taking me back to that time on Skye

Where my lover and I shared our dreams.

There sits the Auchentoshan,

Introduced to me thirty years ago

When my brother bought me a bottle.

A bottle for my fortieth birthday.

Or will it be the new one,

The Ardbeg,

The one disliked

By my friend in the Choir.

And then there is the Christmas gift

The one I didn’t know,

The Bailie Nicol Jarvie,

But so smooth to the taste.

Lastly there is the one at the back,

The Jura that I dare not touch

As that is for my friend

When he comes round.

So many choices,

So little time,

But before I go to bed,

One of them will be supped.

The Bailie Nicol Jarvie was a Christmas present from our daughter's partner. I had never heard of it. It used to be highly popular in Scotland in the twentieth century but is now discontinued, a quite rare scotch now, I am honoured to have a bottle. It is a very good Scotch.

A fine write Gold. There's the one with water added too, made specially by me. Left unopened for centuries by you?! Made just after 1066. Aww, have a taste of it!

      Thanks Orchi.

I put that in the cellar for 'ron (later on).

Shall I bring my own glass?

      Nothing like the nectar.

If you want to but I do have the odd crystal scotch glasses.

Very true it is beautiful when sipped slowly.

All I have is a litre of FAMOUS GROUSE I won in the Christmas Raffle. I was too expensive for first footing so i took minatures instead ! I did manage to find some coal as well. As a nutitionist I agree Single Malt must be supped very very slowly ~ you dont always get a refil ! Yours as always Brian ~ Love to JOYCE 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Thank you Brian, yes malt must be sipped with respect.

I'd much like to hear this as a haunting sea shanty. It's good to be back and see beautiful works from you such and these!

Good to see you back, thank you.

                A wonderful poem.

You had better keep that "Bailie Nicol Jarvie" in a safe place for a special occasion.

A great write that makes us realize we are, none of us, really promised tomorrow, so we should enjoy the things today that we've accumulated over the years. 🙂
