Tune: St Michael
('The Lord is risen indeed')
Mark 1 v.2-5
*********
It is written, refer
Malachi, Isaiah (Old Testament books)
See therein prophecies there be
They all in God agree
It is written, Behold
Hearken as it is told
I send my messenger before
The face of the Lord sure
John the Baptist is he
He shall prepare way, see
The way of the Lord, John a voice
Come, make the Lord your choice
A voice in wilderness
His message this, no less
'Tis prepare you way of the Lord
He is the living Word
Make His paths straight, ready
Penitent in heart be
Baptism of repentance for
Forgiveness of sins sure
That ministry he did
Sins were confessed, not hid
In River Jordan so prepared
They, in baptisms shared
