ARTISTIC LICENCE

Michael Edwards

Deviate from truth

Colour with passion and soul

Artistic licence

Draw only to guide

Blow aside the rubber dust

The lines disappear.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Today's picture is a spoof Artistic Licence which I got from a friend a few years ago - about credit card size it appears to be out off date - I must reapply. Posted following a comments with Neville yesterday and the poems written in response following that discussion.

My daughter, the artist, have had discussions about the first 5-7-5, what is or is not art, to be true art artistic licence must prevail - or does it. If an art work looks like a photograph is is true art, art must have some of the artist within it. A discussion without an ending I would think.
    Good 5-7-5s Michael.

A difficult subject. I may have said this before but without questioning the skill levels of either genre - if a painting is presented in photorealism without any artistic interpretation then the artist is really a craftsman. An artist is someone who applies artistic interpretation.

A craftsman is someone who simply copies a subject regardless of the skill levels involved.

Many who are often regarded as craftsmen (for example narrow boat painting) are also artists. Some who paint in the surrealist style using photorealist images juxtaposed with other incompatible images are also artists as they have applied other skills beyond mere copying.

      Only my opinion - discuss.

A discussion that has been going on for millennia and will continue so to do.

            Deviate from truth
            lose oneself in darkness
            truth will light the way.....

            Nicely penned & true..... N

                That Eve Ning going OK?!

                • Michael Edwards

She booked in at a local hotel under the name of Eve N Tide - I think it's a pseudonym.

Art is as you tell it dear friend - an interpretation of reality at large in the some-where - and without that I agree tis but good craft. I have known folk on both sides of that coined position and admire each end result - - artists and craftsmen have great affinity with passion and soul. I smiled at your pic. of the Spoof Licence - - if I may say you would never need to persuasion to sell your wonderful watercolours - they shout artistic talent with every brush stroke.
