Feeding The Flock - Mark's Gospel (7)

Tune: Duke Street

('Fight the good fight')

Mark 5 v.32-44

******

Jesus met crowd, had compassion

His love, heart, went out to each one

For they were as sheep, no shepherd

Now voice of good Shepherd they heard

The day went on, then 'twas evening

The crowd no food did with them bring

But Jesus said, What food, any

Is there, disciples go and see

They found out five loaves, two fishes

But how this meet the crowd's wishes?

For them to all be fed, this small

Amount, how shall it feed them all?

Jesus said for all to sit on grass

Time for provision did not pass

Was not missed, for Jesus did take

The food and blessed it for their sake

Then gave to the disciples there

To distribute to each a share

And they did all eat, had enough

Gathered up all the extra stuff

Was twelve baskets full, the surplus

All there were fed without a fuss

E'en over five thousand, they saw

And ate of the Lord's gracious store

Amazing grace, vast multitude

They did eat, were refreshed, renewed

The Lord's glory they saw, rejoiced

His great workings they told and voiced

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre. The miracle is even more amazing, as some Gospels say 'Five thousand men, besides women and children'. So over 5,000 people, and 12 baskets of food over at the end! Though commonly called 'The Feeding of the 5,000'.

Thanks Michael. I run out of letters at times - the 'd', then the 'a' recently. I think you used them all up. I will have to get here earlier before supplies run out!

Ooh there's all sorts of people hiding on 'ere - Sylla Berles (syllables); Arty Couplets; etc. Even some families: e.g. Ram Berles (rambles); Sim[Simon] Berles (cymbals); etc.

Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Great hym & Scipture ~ Only JESUS could do that ! That it was a real MIRACLE is attested ~ because the Scripture says that because of what happened ~ The Disciples believed in HIM ! Love the POEM.

              Another good one Orchi.

I see you have used the song you had at your wedding to KP.

Thanks Gold. Ahh yes, I should have added 'This is set to the tune of he well-known hymn for marriage services' - well, my KP marriage anyway. She don't improve much.
