Praise Parading

Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen

('All creatures of our God and King')

Psalm 148

*********

Praise the Lord in the heavens above

And yet He near us in His love

Alleluia, Alleluia

Praise Him in the heights, people all

And all His angels on Him call

Trusting Him, safe you shall not fall

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise Him, all you hosts, serving free

Praise Him sun and moon radiantly

Alleluia, Alleluia

Praise Him, all stars of light, you shine

With His created gleams divine

And with His purposes align

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise Him you highest heavens, so

And you waters, rain, showers, dew

Alleluia, Alleluia

Let them the LORD's name it upraise

For He commanded in His days

And they created as He says

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

He has stablished them for ever

Made decrees which they pass never

Alleluia, Alleluia

Praise the LORD all on earth, dry land

And seas, all formed by His good hand

Creatures made by Him, wondrous band

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise Him, fire, hail, snow, and vapours

Each one to your Creator stirs

Alleluia, Alleluia

Stormy wind his word fulfilling

From His treasures He does it bring

For He Lord over everything

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise Him, mountains, hills, fruitful trees

Cedars, meadows, pastures, and leas

Beasts, cattle, creeping things, and birds

For of His greatness you have heard

All made sure by His living word

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise Him, kings, queens, and all people

Princes, judges, young, old, e'en all

Alleluia, Alleluia

Adults and children, let them praise

Him, and fresh praises e'er upraise

His name excellent through all days

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

His glory is above the earth

And above heaven, give Him worth

Alleluia, Alleluia

He gives strength unto His people

Their strength is their praise, e'er of all

Israel, they do on Him call

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8.8. metre with Alleluias. The original Psalm seems to cover just about everyone and everything. There are 'dragons of the deep' in the original too - whatever they are?!

Thanks B&A. I like those meecy (micey) things in the clip - not meerkats, but conies/rock badgers I think. I know them well, of course! Probably cousins to me guinea pigs.

Thanks Neville. Yep, them pesky dragons. Maybe it was some creature from Biblical days, that the Psalmist did not know about. The Loch Ness Monster? Komodo Dragon? The sea was thought of as a bad or evil place in Jewish days of old.

yet it provided them with an abundance and great variety of food..... like cod in parsley sauce....
