...and thirty years hence

Andrew Charles Forrest

Down among the lemon groves

I saw you with your hat tipped back

Freckles on your arms with skin so pale in the sun

Dress that caught the wind

So thin and cool in the citrus air

Hair behind one ear I saw you smile as you looked back

Carefully placing footsteps

As you walked across my memories

Changing everything before and ever since

There’s been no going back

And I have loved you every moment

Down among the lemon groves and thirty years hence
