Nightness.
When more mauve than dark
pervades the horizon
cattle seek harbours
as night creeps from hiding
When lengthens the gloaming
beasts shuffle lazily
to stand under hedgerows
more still than paintings.
Stone-like their statues
in sunlight's last rays
make no ghostly moves,
more grey than shadows,
a bovine's long wait.
In ebony's blackness
beasts take heat or cold
rain-stained and stiff-backed,
defiantly shiftless, know
more dark than light
means conquering nightness
with patience unrolled.
I think with light's fading.
of resolute cow-minds
braving time's changes,
facing sun's dying
without much complaint
and pray to do likewise
with more their behaviour.
Being conscious of need
to show same resignation
when coping with fate
I looked this evening
to learn more from nature.

Fay,
That was cannading very well detailed it put me right into your poem. thanks for the share hope to read more of your work.
Am thrilled that you liked the read and thank you for this kindly comment Confia.
A fine write Fay. More Dayness coming along these days, gradually now.
Yes the days are drawing out come Feb. as my Grandma used to say.
The way you capture your readers mind, re-pace their perception with your wonderful descriptions, even prying into bovine mind-set. Amazing, beguiling poetry flows from you.
Once again you bring the countryside of England to me in my semi detached urban reality. And a smile to my face.
Awe - - thank you so much for this very kind comment my friend - so so pleased you enjoyed the read.
Wow you captured the sunset scenes and animals and all very masterfully in word painting wow. Always great to read your muse thus. Kudos.
Nice to read from u again,
Pleez do review/comment my newest poem too . Best wishes,
Your visit and encouraging comment is much appreciated dear poet - - have reviewed your new work - keep the ink flowing.
A comfort-food read - loved it.
What a kind tag to give my Nightness piece - thanks so much Michael.
What a wonderful write Fay, I was with them waiting for the light that comes from your words.
Ah - - how lovely that you were caught in the scene as those patient cattle waited for daylight. Thanks dear Goldi for all your support of my efforts at poetry.
Thank you FAY for a very incisive Poem ! It contrasts the placid BOVINE accommodation of NIGHTNESS ~ We just turn the lights on ! By refusing to acalimatise to NIGHTNESS puts us outside Nature ! The generaton of all that ELECTRICITY causes Global Warming !
We can learn much from Cattle as they submit to NIGHTNESS ~ Silence (V 2) Patience (V 3) Uncomplaining (V 4) ~ So we must always Look & Learn from Nature ! Your poem is almost Burnsian ~ you have crafted a GEM from rural observation ! O to be in CORNWALL ! Love in the SPIRIT ~ Brian & Angela 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Bless you again for your visit and encouraging comment - yes we can learn many lessons from nature if we but stop and listen.......... hugs to you both xx
Such a way with words Fay detailed yet calming like reading down a list. Great work and keep it up.
