New or Old.

Goldfinch60

In the shop window I saw the sign,

‘New feels good’.

Yes, new clothes are good,

But old clothes are comfortable.

Couldn't agree more - great little 'un.

How about an old body in new clothes - does that work?

    • Goldfinch60

      Thanks Michael.

It's a thought but Old body on old clothes still sounds more comfortable.

    • Fay Slimm.

Agree wholeheartedly - comfort comes from clothing that has warmed the heart. Joan Sutherland's voice is so haunting and thank you for sharing that number dear Goldi.

Thanks Fay, I think we all have those old clothes in which we feel most copmortable.

Yes Joan Sutherland's voice is so wonderful.

A fine write Gold. Ohhh we're wise then, I reckon: 'Everyone instructed unto the kingdom of God brings forth from their treasure things old and new'. I read that the newer treasures are on top, and the older treasures are down below. We was 'ere in 1066, so have centuries of treasure - I hope!

We have centuries of old clothes as well Orchi, but the metal bits in some of the armour we had to where stick into our bodies too much for comfort.

I went to Specsavers last week in Wells City, a place near where I live, to order two new pairs of glasses. Whilst I was walking through the town I saw this old fella sat on bare, and cold paving slabs in front of a locked door, which looked just as flaky as the old fella. He was only wearing a top jumper and a pair of jogging bottoms, which looked as though they were as old as him. He must have been 70 at least. So. off I trotted to the nearest charity shop and bought him a pair of shoes, his were ridden with holes, which I thought would fit him, they did, a couple T-shirts and a woolly jumper, and a jacket all for under £20.
I then checked into Greggs and bought him 2 filled rolls, a few cakes, and a large cup of coffee which he looked dire for. When I greeted him with his ageing wrinkled up face and stinking which nearly knocked me out, I think he may have wet himself, but never the less I handed him his gifts. He suddenly burst into tears and kept repeating "Thank you, I love you, thank I love you so much, I thank the Lord for you. As I waved goodbye to him and walked away up I thought to myself about how priceless his heart really is. I couldn't stay to have a chat with him because my bus was arriving very soon. Humans need to understand just because of a pensioner being homeless and parked up begging on the street doesn't mean they not to be treated as humans, too. I have reflected upon him since, and although I am powerless to help any more than I did I hope he eventually finds help from someone somewhere somehow. It's a miserable world when we get to see this happening on our Streets, especially when the generations who are older than us who suffer every second of every minute of every hour, day and months. I hope the next time anyone who reads this and gets the chance, then even if it's a quid pulled from your flowing over with money pockets and make a gesture of reassurance that at least in the least of all things he, or she has been thought about. God bless that old fella I had the grace to meet. Old cloths are gold dust to the homeless.

Such a wonderful thing to do Kevin, I do try and help where I can but cannot help everyone. There is enough in our world to be able to prevent this type of situation but those in power who have the wherewithal to do something about it only care for themselves.

              • kevin browne

Yeah. I'm very aware how difficult it is to know how to help them sometimes.

Dear Andy - New cloths = going out = being respectable = behaving oneself = oh god again! Old clothes = home = cozy = I like me a little = fireplace = books = music = a nice lunch = no worries mate.

                • Goldfinch60

Thanks Lorna. I totally agree with you. There is nothing quite like being happy, safe and comfortable within our home.

                      Especially shoes.
We all 'wear' our clothes in unique manner. By 'wear' I mean the wrinkle and creases we cause to repeatedly develop in our garments. For we are all a different shape.
The old clothes we wear become a part of our outward personna as much as the smile lines, wrinkles and the way we limp along.

                      • Goldfinch60

Yes very true da, our old clothes tend to define who we really are.
