Outgrown.
Next generation once weaned wings away
from the breast's cloistered past.
In standing erect most offspring cling not
to parental mastery.
Growth's call will never be hindered by
closed doors of detention.
Soaking in sap furthest from home keen
shoots yearn for adventure.
Trying to eat what others digested sours
young buds wanting new taste.
Belonging to no-one new courage begets
when choices need making.
Every plant casts its seed to the wind so
each finds space to survive.
Only by leaving the nest can a fledgling
learn self-respect and thrive.
Letting go gently is welcome when sweet
dependence seems outgrown.
Whether fur, flesh or feather successful
flight will ever remember home.

Super write and that painting is something else - do you know who it's by?
Sorry I cant help here Mike - -found it in my picture files and have no idea who painted it - great to depict what I needed however and thanks a load for the read and comment.
this is a very special poem you have left here for us to enjoy today Fay and many more days to come I imagine... I salute thee and true x
Yes I thought the conception of all things flying away to prove life to itself was worth a poem and so glad you thought the subject special my friend.
I did.. no kidding.. it is still special and I've lost track of the times I have read and re-read it....
A good write Fay. School 'detention' can be unfair, if the whole class is punished because of one or two offenders. Oh, the shame of it - I even got caught up in a whole-class detention. Of course it all has to be PC these days, for snowflakes!
Glad you enjoyed the read Orchi. and thanks for this interesting comment.
This poem reminds me not just of your skilled writing ability for seeds to survive, but also the same thing happens within any form of life. What a remarkable quote/stanza you wrote resembling all forms of life as I mentioned. "Next generation once weaned wings away from the breast's cloistered past. In standing erect most off spring cling not to parental mastery". I believe every living thing is captured brilliantly in your work. Great stuff, Fay Slimm,
Grateful thanks for your kind comment Kevin - yes I agree that every living thing has to prove to itself life's personal meaning - - so pleased you enjoyed the read.
You're very welcome, my dear.
I remember it was hard breaking away from what people who love you wanted for you.... but I don't regret a moment. Your poem brought it all back Fay.
THANKS FOR SHARING FAY ! Young of all species "Flee the Nest" some much earlier than Young Humans. Alas some children as young as FIVE ~ have to fend for themselves ~ and they can ! BRIAN ~ My Parents enabled me to move into my own Flat (close to them) at 25. Also ANGELA'S Parents allowed her (at 27) to share a Flat with her colleague RUTH. They both worked near their Parents and could have lived @ Home. Their Parents forbade them to live with a Man before they were married. We are all Church Workers and it would set a bad example to the Teens in our Church ! Parents should take responsibility for thier Children (& Teens & Twenties) leaving HOME ! A Residential University does give us a taste for "Freedom" but the cost of independent living only hits one when you do it for real. Im glad my NEST is still close enough (and available) for SUNDAY LUNCH ! Thanks for raising an important issue !

What a wonderful analogy, casting seeds to the wind ... encouragement to parents.... let them go and find their own place in humanity.
Much wisdom.
Wonderful write Fay, yes we need to let go of the youngsters to find there own ways and paths in the world and life.
At present we have one granddaughter working in Beijing and the other studying in Milan as part of her degree.
