Tune: Galilee
('Jesus calls us o'er the tumult')
Mark 10 v.46-52
*********
Bartimaeus sat by highway
Begging for some help each day
Then he heard Jesus was passing
By, it in his ears did ring
He cried out, Jesus, have mercy
Son of David, come, help me
Would not be quietened or silenced
Still he cried out, persistence
Jesus stood still, and commanded
Call the blind man here, He said
Then the crowd said, Take good comfort
The Lord calls you, Him you sought
He came to Jesus, who did ask
What will you I do, the task?
Bartimaeus said, Lord, that I
Might receive my sight, my ply (plea)
Jesus said, Go your way, for your
Faith has made you whole for sure
And straightway his sight he received
Then followed Christ, he believed

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. metre. Do you prefer more punctuation, i.e. speech marks? I generally use them, though in some poems I feel it makes poems look messy or too 'busy'.

Will it cost more for using speech marks?! lol.
I love the name Bartimaeus - never heard before...... Your "speech marks" seem just fine to me....... but fines can be expensive!
Thanks Lorna. I thing 'Bar' is 'Son of', so his name is 'Son of Timaeus'. Erm, I dunno then if his actual name is Timaeus or what it is.
BARTIMEUS by the wayside begging
Alone & Blind the World he could not see
Friendless all his live was ebbing
Then JESUS came & set the Captive FREE !

Thanks M.
enjoyed working through this one orchidee, once I got the hang of pronouncing that geezers name.. still not sure if I got it right, but that dont matter.. Oh' as far as punctuation is concerned.. I tend to avoid it for the reasons you refer to above.... Neville
Thanks N. Bar-Tee-May-Us I think it is - uses all of 4 syllables!
Gotcha... might come in handy...
Good one Orchi. I always use Speech Marks, it emphasises the words.
Thanks Gold. Yes, I see it can be of practical help with the speech marks. Sometimes I don't always use the exact words that people said, in my hymn-poems. I try to keep it accurate, and not put words in people's mouths. An author got fussy about Bibles with Jesus' words in red. He said 'ALL the Bible is Jesus'/God's word'. I think he was being pedantic. I thought 'Well, at least it HELPS having Christ's actual uttered words in person in red.
AMEN!
Thanks P/F.
