Darkness into Light.

Goldfinch60

The darkness was there within me

Suffocating my soul,

The stress of my life pulling me down.

Illness struck ,

Taking me further into the depths of despair.

The illness gradually passed

Leaving me so weak

That my strength seemed lost.

Then it happened,

I sang,

I sang with the Choir.

As each note left my body

It took the darkness with it.

My mind was clear once more

And my life was back into the light,

The light that music always brings.

My soul was breathing again

As music once more pulled me,

Pulled me up from the depths,

The depths of my suffering.

The light was there within me,

Showing the way forward once more.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have been a bit down recently as you all know but I was struck with an illness a week ago and that really pulled me down, that is why my comments on this site have been sketchy but I went to sing with the Community Choir last night as I do every week and it really pulled me up. The power that performing music is so healing that I feel back to my old self now. The singer is Elly Ameling and it is her eighty sixth birthday today, 8th February.

Really glad to read you are on the up my friend. Life's burdens can catch up with us. So good to read they are back in perspective. Winter blues and cold weather keeping you from river walks i suspect.

        • Goldfinch60

I never worry about the winter blues but looking after my wife 24/7 stops me going to My River.

                    • ANGELA & BRIAN

THANKS UNCLE ANDY : I was raised Catholic so I love AVE MARIA and any Hymn that brings Glory to Our Blessed Lady ! I love the simplicity and serenity of Evangelicals like BRIAN and I love the JOY of the Services : But I have several reservations one of which is their almost completely ignoring of the Blessed Virgin Mary : WHY ?
I agree with you about the power of singing to raise ones Spirit ! It ALWAYS happens to me singing in the Congregation or Choir and in NZ Music is a very important element in Worship !
Abundant Blesings & Love to You & Joyce :
