Disillusioned

Andrew Charles Forrest

Disillusioned

They always leave the bibles and the mirrors when they go...

The crofters and the farmers and the tenants of the land

It’s just about survival, what they can carry and what they know

The spirits that failed them can now fend for themselves

They always leave the bibles and the mirrors when they go

Their loved ones in the fields as they let go of their hands

As an anchor always ties them here and they’ll be back and fro

They are born of this their soil of this their land

Lovely piece sir. Picture reminds me of Skye.
When they are gone, what thoughts accompany them through the years. Chased off their homesteads by capitalist lairds. Where do they end up.
Today we look at these ruins of their past with romantic eyes but the very existence in that land of those times must have been hard work for all.
Yes their souls haunt their lands.

A fine write A. Is that your house after gale force winds - blew the roof off and the windows/doors out?! I was gonna come and stay a fortnight, but I don't fancy the look of that house this season. lol.

Orchi you're welcome anytime... I'll be out... No need for a key, as you can see... If you could, pop the roof back on when you leave

    • Michael Edwards

Sad reflective write but so captivating - much enjoyed the read.

      • Andrew Charles Forrest

Thank you Michael I don't know if you saw he mini series "Billy Connelly's Scotland? He interviwed an artist on the islands who drew inspiration from the empty crofts and was amased at the things people left... she placed all the bibles she had collected in a glass case... It was sad

Isn't it strange what touches us? Thanks for the read.

        • Michael Edwards

Yes I did see it and I recall the glass case full of bibles - and like you I found it so touching.

Once this land too must have witnessed happier times, where farmers toiled and the craftsmen reveled in their work.

              Nice subject
