All night he tramps around your head
Steals sleep and dreams from your bed
You’re no good!
You are weak!
In the morning heart pounding you begin to twitch
You cannot bear the feeling, as your senses start their tricks
You can’t do this
You don’t belong
Yelling and screaming did not change your fate
She drove you to the door even though the clock said late
Frozen, you can’t move
Breathe or speak
Soothing voices like a lullaby pretend it’s all okay
But the million staring faces are real and never go away
Nowhere to hide
Nowhere to run
Pushing at your buttons, confusing you with words
You try to tell them please can you stop, but no one ever heard
Stop! Pleads your arm
As it strikes out just. Once.
The bully rubs his hands together with narcissistic glow
Look what you have done. Now you’ll have to go!
One phone call and it’s done. Your evil deed explained.
The bully puts down the phone without an ounce of shame.

- Comment from author about the poem: I guess this is cathartic so may not be the best poem. The school bully has several manifestations. Mental health provision and the decline in mental health of children and young people is something the government seem unable to get a grip of. They narrow education, place value on nothing but achievement and create a system which does not fit children with SEN so that they end up marginalised. One in two excluded children have mental health needs. Exclusion has been linked to poorer outcomes for mental health (Ford 2017) and life. Seclusion and restraint and increasingly common practice in schools. The law is patchy and parents and children have no voice. The paper below from the children’s commissioner in Scotland should be read by all teachers. It deals mostly with seclusion and restraint and the piece from the young person at the beginning is a powerful lesson. https://www.cypcs.org.uk/ufiles/No-Safe-Place.pdf

this was simply crying out to be said.. well said
Thanks Neville.
I’ve had a difficult week on lots of levels, writing this helped, even if it isn’t the best poem in the world
I am truly sorry to hear that.. I too often find writing helps, so does talking tho, if you can find someone to trust
Perhaps that’s the thing evading me.
As wtith most bullys they are cowards, i have found that apathy towards them is a great weapon.
Thanks Goldfinch.
The trouble is when the bullies hold all the power it is hard to remain apathetic. 🙁
