DEFIANCE.

Fay Slimm.

Defiance.

Oceans cross curving world by
throwing their tonnage
of ebb and fall while cliff-high
granite holds back floods
to bolster earth's yielding sides
so safer feel folk
when near coastline residing.
Courageously yoked
against loud crashes and cries
of tide's pounding maw
determined folk keep fighting
to tie boats on shore
with naught more than defiance

Thanks so much Michael for spending time to read and review the fate of most small-boat fishermen who live too near ocean breakers - -glad you smelt high-tide's brine on those beaches

I read these words earlier today and vowed to return later, as indeed I have just done... whilst away from home, I read them again sitting on the old harbour wall at West Bay, my little patch of the ocean.... in essence, your words then have been pounding me all day dear Fay... and I have not yet tired of them.... Ah - great you were at the scene so to speak Nev and hope the sun shone on your patch of harbour wall as you were pounded with my saga of owning small boats - -- thanks a load for your kind comment.

I tried so hard to be there and I was there.. tho the sun was shy... my pleasure as always

Thanks FAY for sharing another graphic Poem & Picture. On the East Coast (similar to the West) Fishermen do need a lot Defiance ~ of the Sea ~ of Dwindling Fish Stock ~ and of those of us who crave & consume the Fish unaware of their Dangers & Defiance ! The East Coast is more friable and hundreds of Buildings have already been lost to the Sea ! We should never underestimate the Power of the Sea and the Defiance of ALL FISHERMEN !
