Awesome.
Oh silvery snake, the day
I stroked your
quivering throat, felt the
strong pulse
of your muscular dryness,
hung your long
weight around my own
trusting shoulders,
stood while your carers
draped my neck
in your slithering mass
and my ears filled
with low whispering hiss
I had the most
unforgettable experience.
I will remember
ever the glint of aurora
gilding your skin,
that coldness of eye and
warmth of coat,
the closeness we shared
in those few
awesome moments until
as you slowly
wriggled away I smiled.
Moved, haunted
and forever beguiled by
your sinuous beauty.

Beautiful write about a wonderful creature. I have never had that experience but would be delighted if I had the chance.
So glad to hear you would take the chance to commune with a python if ever you could - - a once in a lifetime's experience for me were those few moments - so look out for a man with a snake round his shoulders dear Goldy
A lovely write Fay.
Thank you my friend.
most unexpected, yet nevertheless penned perfectly, and likewise enjoyed... for a moment I thought you were writing about me.....
Ha -- is your surname Python then and do you have carers - - and can you beguile with sinuous whisperings - - - if so you thought rightly and had a share in my writing.......... ha ha .
one outa three aint bad now is it.... x
An experience beyond my own. I can't say i'm envious as there is no desire to be 'pythoned' within me. Was there such within you beforehand or did this wonderful feeling you've described come completely out of the blue with no prior snake envy?
It came completely out of the blue - I was walking along a local beach when a man handling an enormous snake had a small group around his performance and having asked if anyone would like a hold of the harmless python I volunteered and felt all the words outlined in the poem - a few years back now but I still remember the thrill of the quivering warmth that huge reptile exuded - as I do with the dolphin who loved to be stroked when piloting boats into the harbour - a once in a lifetime's experience with both.
I was also lucky enough to experience this at a show put on for children at a local Garden Centre. Quite an experience as your super pen describes.
OMG FAY (ANGELA here) I am still in shock ! I never saw you as "A Lad\y with a Snake" in a caberet ! You Poem is experiential enough to actually be true : What an unexpected experience . Love the final stanza !
Moved, haunted
and forever beguiled by
your sinuous beauty : Awesome !
I have seen Lady Snake Handlers in Spain and transiently been entwined by a 12 ft yellow Python : incredible feeling. As a PHYSIO I am intriguied by their fleibility : a snake skeleton is a masterpiece ! The Snake Ladies are contortionists and just as flexible as their Pythons ! SINUOUS is a great word to describe their infinite flexibility : AMEN. Thanks for sharing : great Photo and an ever greater Poem !
Blessings & love through sharing
