Indelible.
With Eden gone I can still catch its traces
in trilling of larks, in open faces
of clifftop thrift, in lizard's shelled skins
and the soft sound waves make
on pebbles as their white bonnets break.
Though Paradise did not remain I perceive
its irrefutable gifts in ripe fields,
at harvest bounty, in revived flowers
after rain and mild heat
of autumnal sun on fruiting orchard trees.
Though Heaven's garden no more exists
I see it's whispered persistence
in the thrust of a puppy's friendly paw,
in fawn's eyes and fish fins
aflame with fluorescent scales lit by liquid.
With Eden now disappeared I might hear
it still in wild foxy shrieks
in owl's eerie cry, in hedgehog snuffles
and in rabbit's high leaps
of rapture as Spring invites him to breed.
Despite Eden's loss such faultless design
marks indelible time behind
every heartbeat found inside nature
and hides in events alive
with amazement to a poet's awed mind.

Excellent Fay

It was a quality composition Fay
If I could have written these words, believe me, I would have.. and I would have been extremely proud of myself .... goes without saying.... thank you...
You are so generous in your support of my work dear friend.
I am far from perfect, but I pride myself on my integrity & my impeccable good taste.... x
Awe Nev you make me blush with this half-hidden compliment and for which I send my shy thank-yous. x
shy thank you's are more than enough & true x
A fine write Fay.
Sincere thanks for visiting and commenting on my poetic efforts dear Orchi
Just beautiful - Will our planet ever stop declining I wonder - let us savour it for its beauty whilst we may.
For your continued encouragement and support a big big thank you dear Michael.
Such beauty captured by your prose, it’s like I can feel the awe and tenderness with which you wrote this.
Awe - I really appreciate your uplifting words of encouragement Sylvia - - so so pleased you enjoyed the read.
Thanks FAY : I have Poems on similar themes ! To me the whole the Natural World (Flora & Fauna) is the Garden of Eden and nowhere on Earth more so than New Zealand. The MAORI live in 24/7 "Harmony with Nature" & the KIWIS are learning fast : There is only one Planet Earth so if we kill it we die with it ! I teach CONSERVATION and the UK is gradually waking up to the inevtable ANTHROPOGENIC destruction of Planet Earth in this Century (by 2100) if we don't wake up !
Let Eden Reign : AMEN !
Bessings & Love : ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Beautiful write Fay, nature at its most profound.
