Ministerial Anger.

Goldfinch60

Once more it has happened!

Our Minister ‘phoned,

He asked the questions.

“How are you?”

“How is Joyce?”

I told him that things were bad,

Joyce’s dementia was dreadful,

I was struggling.

But then he asked the question I was expecting!

“Can you help me with my Computer?”

I nearly told him where to stick his computer!

But no,

I gave him some advice.

I do wish for once he would ring

And just show concern for us,

But no,

He only wants me

To do something for him.

Does he not care for his people?

Is he so wrapped up in himself

That he cannot see the troubles

That are with others around him.

I thought Church Ministers cared!

  • Comment from author about the poem: When ever our Church Minister 'phones me he always wants me to do something for him, he never rings just to ask how we are. This happened again yesterday. I wrote this poem as soon as he hang up, I rewrote it this morning and removed all the expletives. The Firebird suited my mood.

Most do? Yes or no, or dunno?! Some might just use 'pleasantries' then get on to 'What I really wanted to say was....' You fixed that computer?! (ooh).

    • Goldfinch60

      Yes, that’s what he does.

Erm, I never had a situation where I was about to tell a Minister where to stick their computer. Some are 'dinosaurs' and don't even have e-mail.

    • Andrew Charles Forrest

I would have been tempted to ask 3 or 4 randon computer related questions and then said write this down... insert "where to go" expletive of choice.
      But that's me
      You're good man G
If it happens again please post the uncensored version at will that my be a little more cathartic

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you for your understanding Andrew, I have a note of the uncensored version.

This is sad indeed - but thankfully not all are like that. I have a sister-in-law who spends her whole devoted to the church and yet she is the most rude, uncaring cantankerous person I know.

        • Goldfinch60

Very true Michael, most Ministers are very good but we are seeing a man with poor ideas of relationships with the Church Members.

I'm not sure whether the correct word which comes to mind for these false concerns from others is patronising or condescending...however their interest is blatantly false in the circumstance.
Very upsetting when people who one feels should care appear not to care when oneself is at a low ebb. Thankfully you have wherewithall in your character to ride these glitches and come out the other side still positive. And of course us lot in MPS who are a more or less daily listening post for each other.

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you d a, yes I can get over this and the brief outlet of anger helps occasionally.
Yes it is so true that MPS members have a great understanding of each other’s concerns.

Our current Minister is a highly regarded religious scholar who struggles with dealing with people.
