WINSOMENESS OF WINTER ~ ANGELA & BRIAN ~ A SONNET

ANGELA & BRIAN

IN THE UK - A SNOWMAN - SAYS 'WINTER IS HERE !'

CRISP WINTER ~ Final Season of the year

Comes suddenly when awesome Autumns past

The frost ~ makes Winter mornings bright and clear

But fosters Winters biting icy blasts !

But Winters winsomeness is also there

The snow which hides the scars of furrowed ground

The frost that sparkles on the hedgerows bare

The snow that muffles harsh industrial sound !

Ah ! Winter - time of joy & peace & cheer

Of carols sweet & chimes of Christmas bells

The promise of  "The Love that casts out fear"

The pleasures of sweet spicy Christmas smells !

Remind us after Winter comes the Spring

Which "All things Bright & Beautiful" will bring !

Thanks for visit - comments welcome - Love B & A  🧡🧡🧡

This is our final offering - we have come full circle in our

Quartet of Seasonal Poems !  Spring - Summer - Autumn

Winter !  Its been quite different for me in AUCKLAND NZ !

When I arrived in June 2018 Winter was just starting -

but being sub-tropical we didnt get no SNOW ! Never below

10C (50F) @ noon and Sailing all year round in the BAY !

We have had a mild Winter in South of England 21C (70F)

last week but colder now (5C = 40F) snow in the NORTH !

Many Members in the USA & Canada & Scandinavia have

experienced real heavy snow this Winter but Spring is on

its way !  Blessings & Love to all - ANGELA & BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡

A fine write B&A. Someone said they couldn't stand the 'screechy' version of 'All things bright and beautiful!' whatever that is.
There's a controversial verse left out too:
'The rich man in his castle
The poor man at his gate
God made them all...…. (forgot last bit of this line)
    And ordered their estate.
    We reply: 'Hmmm'?

HI UNCLE STEVE ~ Thanks for reminding us of another great Hymn ! Many Hymns contain verses which are now non-PC and speak about HOBGOBLINS etc ! Pleased you enjoyed the Poem etc. Blessings & Love ~ Brian & Angela 🧡🧡🧡🧡

I loved this quartet of the seasons as they appear - - New Zealand blessings are many though living far south in Cornwall I miss the lost magic of snow in the Cotswolds........ a beautiful sharing from you both and hugs with my thank you.

Thanks FAY pleased you enjoyed the series on the Seasons ! I agree about missing SNOW because ESSEX is flat and on the same latitude as Cornwall. When we lived in Leeds we always had plenty of SNOW ~ Angela is looking forward to seeing real NZ Snow & Ice when we visit the South Island in April !
Blessings and Love through Poetry ~

This is a very nice piece. All of those different seasons in different places seems a bit hard to keep up with.
        Keep writing.
        Persistence is key

Thanks DINO ~ Pleased you enjoyed the SEASONS ~ God has promised the teh Seasons ~ Summer & Winter & Springtime & Harvest will never cease ! The order (monthwise) is different in the Southern Hemisphere but the Seasons are the same. Auckland is sub-Tropical so the Winter ~ June July & August was very mild !
Blessings & love in the SPIRIT ~

Hobgoblins - you know 'em well? We don't want to know them. They're in the same line as 'Hobgoblins nor foul fiends', so they're something spooky and nasty - also the name of some Pubs - but how would I know that?! lol.

THANKS UNCLE STEVE ~ You are an expert on HYMNS (Ancient & Modern !) therefore you are familiar with the mantra "Hymnology is not Theology". Scripture is timeless and is the inspired WORD of GOD and without error or contradiction etc etc ! Hymns on the other hand are Poems set to music so they often have rhyme & meter. Some (such as metrical Psalms) remain true to God's Word (The Bible). Others such as Once in Royal Davids City and There is a Green Hill Far Away were written to explain the catachism and are therefore scriptural. As are Charles Weseleys Hymns. However Hymns contain the Vocabulary of the Day ~ Sociological attitudes of the day etc. Catho;ic Hymns will of course pay homage to The Virgin Mary : Penance & The Saints etc. Each denomination must bear responsibilty for its own Hymnology. Graham Kendrick had the (Spritual) gift of writing hymns like Servant King which were acceptable to all denominations : A Latter Day Charles Weseley ! Thanks for sharing :

HI UNCLE MIKE ~ PLEASE SEE MY REPLY BELOW ~ THANKS BRIAN

          • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks UNCLE MIKE ~ Because I (Brian) am an Environmental Scientist I am very interested in the Seasons and also Climate Change and its effect on the Seasons. The UK because of its latitude & longitude (and the Gulf Stream etc) has an excellent Annual Climate and (despite Four Seasons in ONE DAY sometimes) four very distinct Seasons. This is refelected in the climate and the flora & fauna. Having travelled the World (on & off !) I prefer to live in a Country (like the UK) which has four Seasons (S S A W) it makes life more interesting and the FOUR SEASONS are imortalised in Music (Classical & Pop) ~ Visual Art ~ Literature & Poetry ~ Fashion ~ Sport etc etc. Angela is fascinated by the topsy~turvey Seasons in NEW ZEALAND !
            Thanks for sharing ~

Saving my Petrol Money for my flight to NZ in APRIL ! Pleased you enjoyed the WINTER POEM !
Blessings & Love to YOU & JOYCE
