Goldfinch60

All of us sit at the table of life

Interacting with each other,

Interacting to ensure that our lives combine,

Combine into a bright fulfilling future.

We may argue,

We may agree,

But as long as the respect for each other

Can be seen to be fulfilled

We can be as one at the table,

We can move forward in life.

But it often happens in our lives

That one day respect stops,

Respect is no longer being served.

When that day happens

You must find the courage,

The courage to leave the table.

You must find the courage to leave the table

If respect is no longer being served

A fine write Gold. And yes, I ordered humble pie at a restaurant table. They said 'Sorry, what are the ingredients to make it?!' I said' I can't remember; I last had it in 1066'.

    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Orchi. That humble pie is still around but not many eat it any more that is why it is hard to find.

Then again, we (or I) find myself saying 'Sorry' when sometimes it's the other persons' fault. Doh! No use me being a doormat.

      • Goldfinch60

Me, myself and I. You are no doormat Orchi.

Fully agree about JDP and your comments about respect. Sadly my respect for the professionalism of our politicians has evaporated but I am not likely to be sharing a table with any of them anyway.

        • Goldfinch60

Very true Michael, the politicians do not care about the electorate any more, I would refuse to sit at their table as I may throw my food at them.

So very true. This something I have taken on board and i am affronted by those who will not or cannot be respectful of others. No longer enjoying such company - found all too often these days - i avoid the tables.

Nice writing, making a valid observation on society.

Thank you d a, respect seems to be no longer with us and on the occasions it is found it is so meaningful and so uplifting.

I have absolutely no argument with you on this one GF60 in fact I would unequivocally agree with the fundamental principles of respect, honour and courage.. unfortunately, respect, honour and courage each seem to have taken a distinctly dark and twisted shif in relatively recent years which I find a little disturbing.. having got that off me chest, I respect and admire the way you have incorporated your most recent poem around good old fashioned ideals and standards... good on ya squire... Thank you Neville, there seems to be so little respect nowadays.

Apparently Peter the Hermit once said the youth of today have little respect.. or summat like that.. it would therefore seem probable that each generation considers much the same of those who follow them.... I still tend to agree with you tho..... N

Thanks UNCLE ANDY : Love JDP as you say she died in her prime but thank GOD for some excellent recordings : she brought the CELLO to life : a virtuoso ! Love the moral in your Poem R E S P E C T (opportunity for a Septet Acrostic noted !). I respect myself & BRIAN (etc) BRIAN repects himself and MOI (etc). I am fortunate to be in a Profession where Mutual Respect : and respect for our CLIENTS is of paramount importance. In MEDICINE respect is an integral part of the HIPPOCRATIC OATH : AMEN. However as you imply : it is increasingly lacking in todays hedonistic Society. Brian & I hope to start our Family in 2020 but we shudder to think of the type of Society they will grow up in ! Parenting seems to be increasingly difficult especially when a DISRESPECTFUL MAN like TRUMP is in high office. I respect the OFFICE but alas not the Man !
Blessings & Spiritual Love to YOU & JOYCE

Thank you for your insightful comments Angela, I am sure that your family will be respectful form the example that you and Brian will show them.

                    Respect your parents
                    Respect your church
                    Respect your elders
                    Respect your teachers

                    I say BS
                    RESPECT MUST BE EARNED!

                    • Goldfinch60

Very, very true Suresh, it can be hard to earn respect but it can be so easily lost.
