Drove into Church this morn
To set up for the hymns;
And their awaiting at the door
A swan waiting to get in.
It joined the congregation
But wouldn’t sing the song,
It must have been a mute you see,
Or might have got it wrong.
It came down to the choir
To listen to the row;
But didn’t like it very much
So left without a bow.
The service neared completion
The plate was passed around,
The swan donated nothing
So it didn’t hang around!

- Comment from author about the poem: I was on duty at Church and one day arrived to unlock and there was a swan by the main door, I encouraged it back to the river with a trail of biscuits.

You mentioned this yesterday and I'm glad you posted it - great piece Andy.
Thanks Michael. Yes I remembered!
A fine write Gold. I've seen, at mainly slightly eccentric churches, people bringing along their pet dogs for the whole service. I should take Fido along.
Thanks UNCLE ANDY ~ Brought a smile for Thursday Morning to take to work ! We have has all sorts in the Church for the whole of the service ~ Dogs - Cats - Hedgehogs etc ! they all (fortunately !) behaved as MUTE as your SWAN ! The Dog was a Guide Dog a Lady brought the Cat and an eccentric Gentleman brought the Hedgehog wrapt in his cap to rescue it from the cold. Much to the delighht of the Children his HAT started walking along the ailse ~ on cue ~ during the Childrens Talk. In reality I find Churches more amusing than UNCLE MIKES cartoons !
Blessings & love to YOU & JOYCE ~

Love YO YO MA ~ Awesome !
Thank you A and B. We used to have a man and wife who brought their dog to Church every week.
Brilliant, need to take a leaf or feather out of your book
Thanks Dan, a feather would be apt.
This is a super little poem with appropriate ornithological overtones ... Nice one... N
Thank you Neville. Our Church is known as 'The Church on the River'.
How lovely....
Trust Mr Goldfinch to always have an opened packet of biscuits in his pocket.
A great fun read G. and it actually happened.... one memorable quirky fun moment from a lifetime. Really enjoyed this.
Thank you d a, well one needs sustenance to get through the sermons without starvation setting in.
Yes a great fun moment, always to be remembered.
Nice little song of a swan, GF 60.
Looks like he took a swan dive when he saw the plate coming. Oh well just another non-believing waterfowl.Bless his soul.
