Tune: Breslau

('Take up thy cross, the Saviour said')

2 Chronicles 24 v.20-22

*******

The Spirit of God came upon

Zechariah, he was the son

Of Jehoiada the priest he

Had words unto the people, see

He said to them, Why you the word

Of the LORD, his commands you heard

You disobeyed, cannot prosper

The LORD has forsaken you sure

Because you have Him  forsaken

He has turned, has not you taken

Into his favour, so relent

And from your sins now true repent

But they against him did conspire

And did stone him with stones, it dire

At command of King Joash they

Did him kill, from good turned away

So King Joash remembered not

The kindness done, his pleasant lot

From Jehoiada, the father

of Zechariah, his son sure

But he slew his son, who did say

As he was dying, he did pray

Said, The LORD look on this, repay

The wrong here done to me this day

Very sombre mood for today UNCLE STEVE : to balance Uncles Mike & Andy's levity ! The OLD TESTAMENT is red in knife & sword but taken in context it reflects life as it is today !
    Thanks for sharing :

Thanks B&A. It happened to be one in the series of 'The Spirit said to.......' in 1 & 2 Chronicles. Jesus mentions a Zechariah in the New Testament, though it may refer to a different person. The woe is in Joash not remembering to kindness shown to him by Z's father Jehoiada, but he killed Z.
Help! One church had 'A Lent Service of Commination - God's wrath against wicked sinners'. i.e,. those attending the service? Oh dear! Those needing to hear it more are OUTSIDE the church?

Agree with Neville here |Orchi - so much blood shed back then when maybe a pow-pow together would have solved lots of troubles. Love is the greatest of healers as the Christ said.

Yes Fay. Some terrible things in Old Testament - some in the New too. People doing not nice things to other people.

          • Michael Edwards

I lost a lot of blood myself quite recently but I pulled through - mind you nothing like 1066.

Thanks M. Oohh yes, 1066 was terrible!

Much the way I am feeling at the moment, feeling forsaken.
