Such a Sadness.

Goldfinch60

Such a sadness in my life,

Together for so many years,

Our love growing stronger each day.

Then it struck,

Struck out of the blue.

She was smitten,

My love was smitten with it,

With that damned awful dementia.

Each day it got worse

Until that day it happened,

That day when she disappeared,

My beautiful loving wife disappeared,

Disappeared into her own mind.

The occasional glimpse into our world

No longer there,

My lover has gone.

My love for her will never fail

As I vowed,

Vowed in sickness and in health,

That vow is so strong,

I will be with her forever,

Never betray her.

But I do wish

That she was still here,

Still here with me.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My wife's dementia is so bad now, she lives in her own confused world. The Chet Baker track says it all.

The state you describe must be so hard to cope with and my heart goes out to you both - love will never cease but oh what a challenge - hugs to you my dear poet-friend..

Thank you Fay. I would not wish dementia on my worst enemy. Thank you for your hugs.

HI UNCLE ANDY Thanks for CARING ! Love this melancholy piece by Chet ~ sadly it does perfectly complement your Poem ~ and if its any consolation it made me cry. With your poems You have brought Joyce alive and introduced Her to us ~ and shared your love ! That is why we always sign of with Love to You & JOYCE or Love to You BOTH ! AND You get FIVE HEARTS all the others except ANGELA (7) only get FOUR or LESS ! I hope that brings a tear to your eye ~ because you deserve it !
Ive never been married (nor has Angela) but when we do (EASTER 2020) it will of course be for BETTER or WORSE until death do us part ! We don't know what a DAY may bring forth ~ BUT we both (independently !) asked the LORD if he would keep His Hand upon us until at least our SILVER WEDDING (2045) when I will be 61 and Angela 56 ! Also we expect to have some KIDS in their late teens ~ AMEN. Your soliloques about Your Beloved Joyce gives us strength to face any family Situation ~ so thanks for that and (as always) Thank You for the MUSIC ! Our Fusion is now featuring Vivaldis WINTER with a stunning Winter Video ~ Please visit ! I have now hihlighted all four of Vivaldis Seasons to complement the Poems !
Blessings in all that you do TOGETHER

Thank you Nicholas. Yes you are right unless you have lived with it you do not realise what dementia can do to people.

Such pain in your words G. I am a positive minded person and i believe you are too. From this situation, which can only be described as a negative, you have to create a positive to move forward.
I apologise for perhaps sounding clinical my friend but i feel that a positive will come for you and uplift your spirit.

                A very sad read.

Thank you d a, yes I agree with you, I live a positive life and will always so do, it is hard at the moment but I still have my poetry and my music which always pulls me out of any depths to which I may stumble.
Your words are so meaningful - thank you.
