crouched in dark woodland
listening.....
thrust of powerful midnight wings,
furtive scamperings tread secret trails,
wary, scenting human
upon the musty air.
And brock stays besett
for tonight i am fear,
alien, where no-one treads this hour.
Treetrunks creak harmony
to windswept boughs
kissed by moonlight
as thin, in the cool night
distant reynard screeches his love
carried on the wind
through shapeless darkness
I am here just to be here
to witness a part of creation
closed to us in our self centred humanity
to experience one more 'beautiful'
hidden to us
yet real as the night itself
here to be humbled by my insignificance

So poetic and atmospheric this write of time spent in dark woodland as night brings out its secret happenings -- the final stanza brought me near tears
- - -so powerfully realized is human insignificance to such survival. A verse to save and read over again.
Thank you Fay. I am one of those who has to 'feel' the emotion whilst writing of it. Often i have tears of emotion whilst writing poetry and when touched by others words. Writing this was no exception.
A fine write dusk.
Thank you Mr O.
Memories Of walking/running through the dark woods for shortcuts when younger. Really Enjoyed this
Ha ha, your comment has reminded me of forays into the woods etc at night as a teenager.... back then there were other things on my mind, no stopping to take in the atmosphere etc. A young man's interests lay elsewhere.
Super work dusk
Thank you M.E.
