THE PERIODIC TABLE ~ ANGELA & BRIAN ~ AN ACROSTIC

ANGELA & BRIAN

DEVELOPMENT OF THE MODERN PERIODIC TABLE ~ AWESOME !

THE PERIODIC TABLE ~ Is a Logical Arrangement

HYDROGEN (1)* to URANIUM (92) of the Natural

ELEMENTS !  Developed by MENDELEEV (1869)

PEOPLE interested in CHEMISTRY saw the properties of

ELEMENTS  were not all individually different ~ and

RESEMBLANCES  were observed : Chlorine : Bromine

IODINE (Halogens).  Also  Lithium : Sodium : Potassium

ONE of the Metallic Groups.  In the 20th C : We have .......

DISCOVERED this was due to their similar Electronic Structures !

In 1869 MENDELEEV characterised Families of Elements based on their

CHEMICAL (Valence etc) & PHYSICAL (Metals etc) properties !

THE PERIODIC TABLE  was arranged in order of Atomic Masses. MENDELEEV

ACCURATELY predicted properties of then undiscovered ELEMENTS !

BARIUM (56) was above eka-BARIUM (88) : Discovered by the CURIES and

LABELLED RADIUM !  MENDELEEV travelled to Paris to thank them !

ELEMENTS combine to form MILLIONS of CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Love A & B  🧡🧡🧡

* Numbers in parenthesis are ATOMIC NUMBERS based on the

number of  PROTONS in the Nucleus of the ATOM. There are no

missing elements in the modern Periodic Table.  The Periodic

Table is one of the most unifying Concepts in Science. It enables

us to se the properties and Combining Power (VALENCE) of

individual Elements and whether they are  METALS ~ NON-METALS

or METALLOIDS !  in the UK the PERIODIC TABLE is taught (see

Video) at KEY STAGE 4 (aged 14 to 16). CHEMISTRY is a very

exact SCIENCE & is governed by Facts ~ Patterns & Principles

throughout he whole of the Physical Universe. BRIAN & ANGELA.

2019 (150th Anniversary of the PT) is designated as ~

THE YEAR OF THE PERIODIC TABLE !

Never really understood the periodic table. Of course the guy who taught us what about it was a hippie, so what do you expect?
    A nice write, guys.

    • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks NICK ~ YES Science is a most beautiful Subject but is often badly taught in Seconadary Schools ! In the uK there is always a shortage of Science Teachers. I hope the POEM & VIDEO gave you a better understanding of the Periodic Table. 2019 is 150th Anniversary of the Periodic Table and is designated The Year of the Periodic Table !
      Blessings & Peace & Joy

A fine write B&A. Ohh, goody, a chemistry lesson! Ignorance may not be bliss for me, as I only studied 'General Science'.
I think this Table seems to you like a child with a huge bag of sweeties!
Erm, I know H2O. See, I'm an expert in Chemistry really. lol!

      • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ When I was introduced to the PERIODIC TABLE at School I was mesmerised and Chemistry really made sense. We has a big coloured one (on the Wall) and were issued with small B & W ones. I obtained a coloured one and stuck it on my bedroom wall ~ YES it was just like a big bag of Sweeties. Angela too was very impressed by the PT when she was studying A-level Chemistry & Physics to be a Physiotherapist ! As Theresa May would say \"General Science is a much better deal than NO SCIENCE \". Yes the coloured PT does resemble an EYE Chart !
Blessings & JOY for the Weekend

Also - I thought you was giving us an eye-test there. Are ya an optician too?!

        Cari Amici Brian ed Angela,

Whenever I see or am reminded of the Periodic Table of the Elements, it makes my brain freeze...momentarily! Once upon a time, in school, I had to memorize it and regurgitate it back to my teacher! An awful experience!

        Abbracci e Baci...

        ~Laura~

GRAZIE LAURA ~ SORRY WE TRIGGERED A BAD VIBE ! The students @ Moscow University did not have to memorise it because there was a huge stone replica of the TABLE outside the Window ! My DAD says he had to memorise it but when i was studying Chemistry @ School (from 1997 we were give a copy in the EXAM ~ it makes sense !

Ccooeee A&B. I just popped in - to talk rubbish?! lol

        • Michael Edwards

The PT was not something at the forefront of the school calendar back in the 50s so I never appreciated the subject at the time. All the more reason to appreciate your poetic summary.

Thanks UNCLE MIKE : Brian and I largely recieved our Science Education in the 21st C and the Periodic Table is still an important part of our Studies ! We are both BIOCHEMISTS and the position of CARBON : HYDROGEN : OXYGEN & NITROGEN in the TABLE (which is refelected in their atomic structure) explains how they are able to combine to form the 22 common amino acids and how these can polymerise to form ENZYMES which catralyse all the thousands of biochemical reactions which function in and control metabolism and anabolism (LIFE) in the Human Body. To us this KNOWLEDGE does not diminish : but it enhances the "Mystery of Life".When MEDELEEV published his TABLE in 1869 I don't think he had any concept of just how earthshaking to CHEMISTRY the TABLE would become and still is ! Thanks for your comment : the History of Science & Technology is very very Poetic !
            Blessings & Joy

          • Fay Slimm.

Oh how this takes me back to when tears met my need to remember those tables........ and I was hopeless at maths too. Words made my day then as now.

            • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks FAY pleased our focus on the PT revived \\\"intersting\\\" memories ! Brian & I are interested in the ARTS (Literature & Languages : Art Music etc !). However because were proficient at Maths & Sciences we decided to follow Scientific Careers ! Myself as a para-Medic : Physiotherapy and Brian as a Scientist in Industry : Research & Teaching. These professions offer Interesting and Rewarding Employment ! By the 21st C (When we qualified) all the Sciences were very well established & stabilised ! Pleased you enjoyed the Presentation : Thanks for your comment !

The Periodic Table was learned so many years ago when I was studying chemistry but although I have always been aware of it I do not use it very much in my retirement.
Good write though on its anniversary

              • ANGELA & BRIAN

THANKS UNCLE ANDY ~ I am sure when you were studying Chemistry you would have marvelled at its symmetry and all that it taught us about the Wonder of each individual Element and the properties of the Family into which it neatly fitted ! As a Christian Chemist I look for facts ~ Patterns & Principles in Science ~ "Thinking Gods Thoughts after Him" as KEPLER said ! Since MENDELEEV published his Table it has been vindicated by the successive discovery of ELECTRONS ~ PROTONS ~ NEUTRONS and ISOTOPES etc. When i was born (1983) all 92 natural elements had been isolated ~ purified ~ classified and placed in the TABLE ! I have a big one in my BEDROOM WALL ~ just to remind how great was MENDELLEEV and GOD who designed atomic (and molecular) structure was even greater ~ AMEN ! Pleased you appreciated the PRESENTATION !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & JOYCE

This seems a bit beyond us mere mortals. Oohh it's educational though! heehee.
It's like a huge bag of sweets for a little kiddy to you - or more crudely - you 'happy as a pig in muck there?!' lol.

              • Fractured Dreams

A very informative read, thanks for the lesson today

                • ANGELA & BRIAN

THANKS FRIEND ~ Pleased you enjoyed it ~ The History of Science is always exciting !
