NIGHTS OF SOLITUDE

Michael Edwards

NIGHTS OF SOLITUDE

Past memories once intertwined

when cast in tones of honest doubt

sow disbelief in troubled minds

as dreams of union linger on.

Within the bounds of consequence

the self abandoned beating heart

with counsels wisdom exercised

will never change decrees of kings.

Deterrent forces cast aside

without resolve of modesty

abandoning  past vanities

in nights of solitude.

A solemn reminder that solitude can alter many a mind - good write Michael - and that gorgeous watercolour has to be one of your very best.

Thank for your encouragement Fay - it is so much appreciated.

A 'self abandoned beating heart' is that a suicide perchance?
Great picture made me think of olde England's Dodge City. 'Forsooth, steppeth thee outside good sir and prepareth to withdraw thine musket perchance to be holed by my ball'

Don't know what it is but it sounded good when the words came to me. In fact I'm not sure if I understand the poem but I just love words and how they can flow especially when twisted and strangled beyond normal usage - bit like abstract art I guess.

What super and honest response. Sometimes it occurs to me that a poem looks good, reads good but i haven't a clue what its supposed to be conveying unless it is the 'form' itself. Just as you say, rather like an abstract poem... structure but no content... ooppss your piece excluded from that.

What a wonderful write Michael, and a fabulous painting.

Thanks so much Andy - the painting is based on an old sepia photo but sadly it doesn't identify where it is. My gut tells it is probably old Chester but I can't be certain - I just loved the image.

Love the VILLAGE SCENE : Uncle Mike very nostalgic ! Brian has kept me updated on BREXIT and it is on NZ TV. Because BRIAN & I both voted to REMAIN (as did you)in 2016 : Your poem rang a distant (BREXIT) BELL !
NIGHTS of SOLITUDE can make us imagine (V 1.) PreBrexit days : "Dreams of Union"
V 2. The consequences SEPARATION ! Unthinkable ! GOD (King of all Creation) put us in Europe and in Europe the UK should remain ! I value my joint citizen ship of both the UK & SPAIN !
V 3. Those who voted BREXIT had a vision : PAST VANITIES (The late Victorian Era ?) could be restored !
How deluded they where in NIGHTS of SOLITUDE ! Correct me if Im wrong : but thats how I interpreted the Poem !
Blessings and JOY in your ART & MUSE !
            Peace & Love : ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

The problem is we did take a vote and I firmly believe that the underlying principle was to re-establish sovereignty. If this is accepted there is only Brexit available - anything else is a fudge to appease the MPs who are predominantly Remainers. We are about to end up with the worst of both worlds in a compromising 'deal' when we should be either totally in or totally out
