Morning Coffee
He takes his early morning coffee
Strong and black
Seated on the balconet or decking
Sun bleached and worn smooth by
Countless pairs of feet but then
Who’s counting….
The scent of warm croissant and
Something musky rises steady
From the open kitchen door
Below and for once the wind chimes
Hang silent
Only bees are busy here it seems
This morn….
Better wrap it up my buttercup
He smiles and thinks beyond himself
One day I shall count those
Daisies on the lawn
Be sure not to forget me
Not yet
He takes his early morning coffee
Strong and black
But drinks it on his own….

We could pop round for a cup of coffee with him! A nice slice of cake too. Or rather, tea for me. I would spit out black coffee, and most coffee! lol.
And did he have a wild evening the night before - needing black coffee now?
Cheers orchidee... I always take mine strong and black.... even my tea....thanks for the visit .. N
Hi N... bleeurrghh, tea without milk is like castor oil, or summat. I can bare it without sugar sometimes, but not without milk. You had that morning cuppa yet? Just having mine now.
enjoy....
A pot of tea? A whole pot?! lol.
my word, you are a greedy ferret or guinea pig , or whatever aint ya..
A poignancy hangs over this small verse of reflection and penned with your usual gift for mystery the write takes on a life of its own - - settled but lonely that morning coffee tells such a story - - - - a compelling read and another winner methinks dear Nev...............

You had that coffee today? About 20 cups, as some people seem to have in a day?!
Ohh! I forget my morning coffee, but then, I drink mostly very light tea.
Enjoy your coffee and croissants, I guess I won't be on your list of invitees
You are more than welcome and feel free to hop on board... I like my tea minus milk and sugar too N
Very emotive write Neville, I enjoy good coffee.
Aye sir, you can beat an egg and you can beat a carpet, but you just can’t beat a good coffee... thanks for visiting this page GF60....always good to hear from you........ Neville
Lucky sod! Most blokes have to suffer the earache of her indoors innit.
I am indeed a lucky so and so.. I know it to be true & I thank my lucky stars each day... and I thank you now for both reinforcing the fact, and reminding me.... Neville
Interesting rhythm . I like it. 🙂
How extraordinarily kind... I am most grateful.... Neville
