Wraiths.
Bats. small and flying as part of a crowd, sigh-forth
at early twilight
out of their hiding place and
quicker than lightning they can all see
minute food to attack
in night's nearing blackness.
Streaming past me they take on forms of shadowy
wraiths in the sky
mounting to make papery
flutters with drumming of wings as they
explode from sites of roost,
ghostly white and luminous.
Dispersing with faintest of confident squeaks into
dark's vast forest
of insects they swerve to
search for food then not a heartbeat after
they leave, trailing whispers
for those who stay to listen.

Good write Fay.
My thanks to you Orchi.
Thanks for sharing FAY : I love BATS ! We have a lot in NZ in the caves ! I love the fact that they navigate by RADAR and not sight ! In BAT CAVES Ive never had a BAT in my hair : although I do wear a Hat with a LAMP ! Love the PHOTO and the POEM !
Your poem captures: Their rapid vapid movement : Their shadowy wraithness (apt word !) : Their feeding and sudden exit ! Another gem from FAY ! Please check my HOSPITALS POEM : Thanks
Blessings & Love
Yours ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Yes bats are found pretty-well worldwide and in some countries they number in millions - thanks for sharing your bat experience in New Zealand Angela - - it must be wonderful to go into their caves and catch them asleep..............
what images these words do conjour...
so much nature captured in a patch of sky..... N
Yes nature showing off bats is an experience - wonder if you have ever watched their comings and goings in your neck of the woods Nev. - - glad you enjoyed the read my friend .............. Fay
Morning Fay... I was going to say that although they are obviously around here, sightings are less common than I thought they might be.. I do keep an eye open and find them fascinating..... N
You certainly capture the speed and agility of these night sky dancers here Fay.
I had the delight of one entering my living room and entertaining me for a couple of minutes one summers nite many moons ago before it sounded its way back out to feast upon the moths gathered beneath the portico outside my window.
You describe something i have never seen though, that movie scene of a 'crowd' of bats streaming across the skies. I only saw few at a time.
Once again your writing took me there.
Delighted you enjoyed the read D,A - thanks too for sharing the wonderful experience of a bat in your living room - - - they are truly a wonder of nature .
Nature has so much more to teach us - and one example is your subject here.
Schools of fish, or flocks of birds, bats and insects, in thousands and many times more, dance in a rythm that's awe inspiring.
Nice homage to bats, Fay
My thanks to you Suresh and am pleased you enjoyed the read about bats.
Another great write.
Yes bats are a wonder of nature and glad you enjoyed the tribute to their intuitive wisdom my friend.
Super Write, I walk in some fields late at night and love the Bats. frisky and quick of movement but cause no disturbance to the peace I have come to enjoy. Another fine poem My Lady Fay Thankyou
Dear friend a huge thank you for sharing your own experience with bats and their wonders. Nature has much to teach those who look and listen eh ?
Those whispers are so enlightening for those who listen.
