Nominal Amnesia.

Goldfinch60

There is that person,

You know the face,

But what is the name?

They greet me

With a “Hi Andy, how are you?”

I respond “Hiya, I am fine, how about you?”

And all the time I am wondering

Wondering what their name is?

We chat for a few minutes,

Say our farewells and move on,

I still can’t remember their name.

But at my time of life

I have an explanation,

An explanation given to me by a friend,

A friend whose name I don’t remember,

I am suffering from nominal amnesia;

Now how is it I can remember that?

Oh lol, I know what you mean. We might think after meeting them 'Who is he/she?' but just go by the face.

I have been trying to buy membership of Amnesiacs Club, but for the life of me I can't remember the name - anybody, anybody

A bit like selective hearing with me - numbers and names jumble together in brains like mine - - good fun-read my dear friend.

          • Goldfinch60

            Thank you Fay.
As for selective hearing many years ago we had a building contractor working for us and if you spoke to him about doing some work you had to shout at him, if you spoke to him about money you could whisper and he would hear every word.

Thanks for sharing UNCLE ANDY : Even @ 31 & 35 names become elusive but weve grown accostumed to their face. I was taught to associate names with faces : because I need to call my clients by NAME fo reassurance I only have about 12 on the go at a time so I always get them right ! BRIAN is the same with students (names are important) but he has over 200 in any term. He has a DITTY for each Class with all the names in ! We love all things IRISH : Thanks for the CORRIES !

Blessings & Love in the Spirit for YOU & JOYCE
Yours as always ANGELA & BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

If the Corries heard you call them Irish they would come outside your window and play the bagpipes and drums all night - they are a wonderfully renowned Scottish Folk Duo and one of their songs "The Flower of Scotland" is the National Anthem for the Scots Rugby Union Team. https://youtu.be/XiyLuv3GSs4

OOPS SORRY UNCLE ANDY mea culpa. Thanks for your correction they just sound a bit IRISH but of course they are as SCOTS as a wee HAGGIS !
                Love ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

                    I know....

                  • dusk arising

"Oh no, not again, why have i come upstairs?"... amnesia.. tell me about it.
Your piece is a reminder of something which happens all to often to me. You see I work in peoples homes and get to see a lot of faces. Faces i later encounter in the supermarket, at the filling station, in the car park or walking through town. I have become accustomed to hearing my self say "Hello, I know that face but i'm blowed if i can put a name to you"... my polite work-around.

Spot on d a, seeing people that you know out of their normal context can be so hard sometimes.
