Poetic Dan

I don't need the law to say I'm a stepdad
I got with a lady and a son she already had

I openly pledged all of my allegiance
As my own it's an unbreakable alliance

That I love, respect and thankful for their guidance
As I openly show the mistakes I can't hide from

For within helping our children, we have to show it first
Then we can all come together sharing lessons learnt

This responsibility is what makes me feel my worth!
As no one can give or take away what they didn't earn

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have a few poems backed up ready to post but this I thought was good for Sunday, as the last lines keep running round my mind. Some treasure you will keep, where no one can reach and not even we can throw it away.

On form again, Dan. This made me think of that after everything you have ever wanted and 100 times more then what else is there left for these people left to do. Thye haven't had time to educate themselves, they just tend to gravitate to where the money, the bright lights in the city and anything else they can get. I beileve poets do the exactly the same thing but with the thoughts inside his head, heart and soul and is noe possible to turn them into words which a million pound wouldn't buy. You have what cannot be taken away and that's our thoughts. You've captured those moments brillintly. Good work, my friend.

Buddy you never fail to make me feel more worthy, thank you for your constant inspiration.
As the other day I wrote one about my feelings on words and poetry that could not of happen without your style!

            Always appreciated
            Have a great day

God bless you, my friend. You should have the inspirations from poets you read or from your intellectual realm of creating your own in the best way you can do. In concern for the compliments I pay you, please allow them to sink in as you have already mentioned, a constant inspiration. For you, I have heap fulls.

The responsibility you willingly take-on now
It front of it, the your past will forever bow.

              Well expressed

                  For this I slowly see
With a reflection of so many
                  Thank you my friend
                  Your time is always appreciated

I'll quote to you words of Rudyard Kipling
"If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
                  And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: "
"Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"

An amazing poet who has versed what i'm thinking with finer words than i can muster for you here today Dan.

From your own comments "Some treasure you will keep, where no one can reach and not even we can throw it away".... I'd like to keep those words in my favourites - sincerely.

Wow that was well needed read my friend and can't believe my words reflected so much, sometimes I still can't grasp how far I've come.
Thank you for the last part, as those came in I felt them reminded me how easily I do try to throw it away feeling as I don't deserve it.

                    Always appreciated

So very true Dan, I too am s step dad and have been for nearly forty years, I am her dad and have been for most of them, our journey as Dad and Daughter is wonderful.

                    • Poetic Dan

Many mine reflect your forty years and when I get to that day, may I shed a tear to remind of a friend I truly admire.

                      Thanks Andy
                      Truly appreciated

Hi Dan - and in the end we know what we have really earned don't we. Don't need big signs from other people and there's no lying to ourselves.
