Back in the Day.

Goldfinch60

Back in the day,

So many years ago

We danced to it,

To that song,

To that group,

That even today

Makes my head nod,

As it did

When we faced each other

On the dance floor,

Heads rocking each side

Of each other’s

To the beat of the song.

So fast,

So loud,

So wonderful.

Every time it happens

If I hear Status Quo,

A smile comes on my face,

A quiver comes to my soul,

As I remember those days

When we danced for hours,

To the sound of ‘Quo.

Back in the day,

So many years ago.

As I write these words

I can feel tears inside me,

Tears of emotion

Of times long passed,

When all was well,

And times were good.

Back in the day,

So many years ago.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Whenever I hear Status Quo a smile comes to my face. The strange thing was that as I was writing this tears almost came to my eyes, this group mean so much to me as Joyce and I used to dance to there songs, "Rocking all over the World".

I felt emotional myself when I read this - we all have pieces that mean so much - we were Buddy Holly addicts - still treasure his vinyls.

      Thanks Michael.
I too enjoy Buddy Holly and when I pit him on I know the words to all his songs so can sing along with him.

My head was nodding as I listened to the older Quo playing their famous number - dancing to that must have been something Goldy........... great days eh ?

          • Goldfinch60

I too always find my head nodding when I hear Status Quo, the dancing to them is not quite the same as it was 'back in the day'.

Good times indeed Andrew (such a good name), they were, and are, a very well loved band and always take me back to those good times when I COULD dance.

Nostalgia and romance... bringing back great times.
Certain music takes you right to those dancefloor moments again.

Those times and music of the 60s and 70s changed popular music, when we went to dances it was to a group playing live not a discotheque, wonderful days.
As you say music can be so cathartic it can bring all emotions to one as well, it does to me anyway.
