FLASHES.

Fay Slimm.

Flashes.

Lunchtime for swallows, winging in
to meet and cheat flight of newly hatched
tiny insect-delight
shows unbeatable aerial display, highest
of feathered skills turning at will, defying
speedometer readings
and rapid as any fastest express train,

each avoiding the crowd of beaks,

they dive open-mouthed.

Pinions narrow for rapacious speed
almost as fleet as nearly-seen flashes
of flies disappearing,
arrowed shapes of famished jaws move
to start greedily swallowing living food
and assemble for more
like jet-propelled aerial sharks starved

for nutrition they dart then soar

leaving mere humans agape.

  • ANGELA & BRIAN

THANKS FAY ANGELA HERE : Great Dynamic Photo that inspired a Great Dynamic Poem ! Elegant choice of WORDS (see MICHAELS Poem) and great meter for dynamic flow ! It is interesting that most mammals (except for Tree Dwellers) live on the two dimensional LITHOSPHERE whereas BIRDS live in the 3D ATMOSPHERE and FISH in the 3D HYDROSPHERE. My Field of Interest & Study is MOBILITY & DEXTERITY ~ Anatomical FORM & FUNCTION and it is very interesting how ANIMALIA are modified for the SPHERE they occupy ! HUMANS can only fly and live underwater because of technology they cannot do it unaided ! Land is overcrowded but SEA & AIR do not present alternative viable habitats ! Humans Ag : suggest jealousy ! *O FOR THE WINGS OF A DOVE ..... !* and *WOULD YOU RATHER BE A FISH ........ ?* Thanks for sharing : very thought provoking !

    BLESSINGS : PEACE & LOVE
    Yours ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Agape indeed. Firstly, thats is a really super picture.
You capture the briskness of these high speed acrobatic aerial delighters. Thank goodness for slow motion filming so that us slower mortals can actually see what is going on and begin to understand. Together with bats and other winged delights, these creature live their everyday at such amazing speed compared to us.
            Delightful.

Agreed D.A. the winged creatures who amaze and delight us have so many abilities which we one day may learn to human advantage. Meanwhile tis so good to stand and watch swallows and swifts in action. Thank you for your valued comment.

As much as we have learnt from nature, and have ourselves excelled in many ways, the feats of different creatures still leave us in awe.

Yes I too am mesmerized by the ballet performed by the schools of fish and the flock of birds.

Thnx for the pic and the poem

              • Fay Slimm.

I was my pleasure to write a tribute for such amazing performers and thanks Suresh for your in-put too within this comment.

Fine write Fay, I enjoy watchinbg swallows over lakes when they fly just above water level and dip their beaks into the water to drink.

                  • Fay Slimm.

Yes the pleasure we have in watching such wonders a swallows is worth all the effort of getting ourselves ready and out in their environment - thanks dear Goldy for sharing your experience of swallows drinking while on the wing .
