Hippopotamus.

Goldfinch60

I was walking down the street,

Glancing in the shops,

When I saw it,

Saw it in the window,

The window of a charity shop.

I thought it was wonderful,

But can I justify buying it.

So I walked passed

With the thought,

If it is there next week

I will buy it.

So along the street I walked,

Came to the shop,

And there it was.

So I went in,

Bought it,

And now I am the proud owner,

Of a carved wooden hippopotamus .

  • Comment from author about the poem: The hippo is about twelve inches long and made of solid wood, everybody who sees it in our lounge comments on how good it is. The song is obviously the only one I could add to these words.

Come on cheapskate admit it, you only bought it cos it was 50p.

Only kidding, I like it. Looks like a good unique piece, does the Missus reckon its a good likeness to you?

Strangely I thought it was quite cheap at fifteen quid.
Yes Joyce did see the similarity in the profile.

Saw many in the river in Kenya. Shows no subject is taboo in poetry.
                    Light read indeed
