Into the showroom I went
Looking at the cars
All pristine and shiny,
Then I saw it ,
A car that intrigued me.
It was just a car,
A modern type of car,
The ones that are getting ever bigger.
I looked in it,
It was so big.
The thought struck me,
If I sold my house
I could live in this car.
Why are cars so big now?

They do seem to be getting bigger and I do wonder especially when I see young mums in them trying to park them in small spaces in car parks. Pewrhaps they need them because they seem they seem to be accompanied by so so much children's paraphernalia - when mine were young it was a small neat travel pram and that was it.
Yes they are getting bigger, I have always wondered why, there must be money involved somewhere.
I wonder what happened to my Triumph Herald?
Good write Gold.
Thank s Orchi.
tis crazy innit.. you write about what I have been thinking for years... today's mini for example, is a complete misnomer...... Neville
I was in a car park last week when mini countryman tried to get in one of the spaces. My neighbour has a 1980s mini in pristine condition and I am sure that he could take it to the car shows that he attends in the back of that countryman.
absolutely
I have always been a lover of big cars probably because i have always been a big bloke. I thought most cars had become smaller nowadays. There seem to be a lot of very upright/taller cars around now which look odd to me, as if they are trying to be a jeep but incapable of off roading. My current car is a mercedes c220 estate of some vintage. I just like its pale leather interior and the fact it will do 47 mpg on a trip.
As a schoolboy i used to get a lift home in my pals mum's austin healey sprite - great in the summertime, or another mates mum's austin mini - those were the days of compact motors.
Remember bubble cars?
My calendar reminds me it is your birthday today.... i hope you are going to be doing something cheerful to commemorate this. So many people we have known in our lives didn't make it this far. At least a celebration of their memory can be a good thing to give ourselves. I hope you have a nice day.
Oh yes I remember Bubble cars, they had no reverse on them so to move them backwards you had to get out and push them.
My birthday is in October, it is the American date system that is wrong.
OK, sorry about the birthday stuff.
Three wheelers too (plastic pigs) had a no reverse and a nice habit of toppling over. Lovely old sit up and beg ford prefects. I like to watch old black and white brit films for a nostalgia trip mostly to see the cars, buses and trains of my childhood. I'm a steam train nut.
One of my friends is a steam train nut as well, he is also the guy I go to the jazz club with every month.
Maybe because the size of obesity demands it my friend - who knows - but may I wish you not only a car but rather more - - best wishes dear Andy on this your special day - Happy Birthday - - from Fay
Thank you Fay you May well be write.

Not sure if it is your birthday as your profile says October but if it is many happy returns and size does not matter its whats inside that counts. Should of been done with these engines long ago 😉
Thanks Dan, yes birthday in October.
In tune with d.a.'s comment. I always owned the longest cars in US - Oldsmobile 98, Lincoln Continental, Bently '65, Bently '89 and so on, and now I drive a Prius - great mileage.
Reminds me of the Hudson my family owned in India, and an Ambassador and all the kids (20 of us) will happily cram in.
The Americans always seem to have big cars but not in the UK, they are getting so big here nowadays.
In America, sedans are becoming obsolete. It's all SUV's and trucks. Some manufacturers have completely stopped production of sedans. Thing is, the SUV's and trucks are all the more bigger. It never ends here. Expect them to get bigger there as well, - Phil A.
Thanks Phil, they are already getting bigger here and some people cannot cope with them they are probably for show.
I don’t see many dirty off road vehicles on the roads.
GOOD EVENING UNCLE ANDY ~ BRIAN here its 9:30 pm ~ Ive had a busy DAY ! In the UK despite the AUTOMOBILE being well over 100 years OLD (since the 1890s in fact !) they are still a STATUS SYMBOL (especially for the under 40s ~ We should know !). There was a time when MINIS etc were all the rage but now its SUV's and strech limos etc ! I am a bit of an exception ! I know a lot about CARS (I teach Automobile Science !). I teach SENIORS @ College and give lifts to Seniors for Church ! Ive bought a MERIVA which is a Geriatric Car with High Seats and a flat loading boot ~ They Love it ! Ive shown it to ANGELA on SKYPE ~ she laughs and calls it *An Old Codgers Car* I have always seen having a car as a means to help others ~ too poor to buy one or too old to drive one. The Philosophy ANGELA & I have is that ~ everything we have belongs to that Lord and is at His Disposal ! We cant wait to own our own Home to entertain for the Lord and a Place where People can feel His Presence and feel at Home ~ AMEN !
BLESSINGS & Peace & Love for YOU & JOYCE
Yours as always BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thanks Brian, the biggest car I ever had was a Rover 2000, that was a long time ago now.
Well done!
Thank you.
