ADDRESS TO A TOOTHACHE ! ROBBIE BURNS ~ BRIAN

ANGELA & BRIAN

THIS LIVELY PERFORMANCE OF *ADDRESS TO A TOOTHACHE*

GIVES AN INSIGHT INTO *PERFORMING POETRY* IN PUBLIC !

MY CURSE upon your venomed stang

That shoots my tortured gums alang

And thro my lugs* gies mony a twang Wi gnawing vengeance

Tearing my nerves wi biter pang

Like racking engines !

When fevers burn ~ or ague freezes

Rheumatics gnaw ~ of colic squeezes

Our neighbours sympathy may ease us

Wi pitying moan

But thee ~ thou hell o a diseases

Aye mocks our groan.

Adown my beard the slavers* trickle

I kick the wee stools oer the mickle*

As round the fire the giglets keckle*

To see me loup*

While raving mad ~ I wish a heckle*

Were in their doup*

O a the numerous human dools*

Ill har'sts ~ daft bargains ~ cutty stools*

Or worthy friends racked i the mools*

Sad sight to see

The tricks o knaves ~ or fash o fools

Thou bear'st the gree*

Where'er that place be priests ca hell

Whence a the tones o mis'ry yell

And ranked plagues their  numbers tell

In dreadful raw

Thou TOOTHACHE surely bear'st the bell

Amang them a !

O thou grim mischief-making chiel*

That gars the notes of discord squeal

Till daft mankind aft dance a reel

In gore a shoe-thick

Gie a the foes o Scotlands weal

A towmonds* TOOTHACHE !

very sacred GROUND !  A TOAST in GLENLIVET to ROBBIE BURNS !

Ouch! That sounds painful just thinking about it. This is a good write.
    Persistence is key

    • ANGELA & BRIAN

YES INDEED DION ~ It is always painful but at 31 & 35 Angela & I still have perfectly sound TEETH ! Because of our Qualifications we are both very health conscious and have never smoked ~ it stains ones teeth etc ! In Our opinion only BURNS could write a POEM on Toothache which is ~ Apt ~ Informative & Entertaining ! All his POEMS are as well crafted ! BURNS was noted for His Persistence in ALL THINGS !

Blessings & Peace & Love to YOU & YOURS
Yours as always ANGELA & BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thanks ~ Theres space for another MONTH on the FUSION

A fine write B&A. I only know the 'wee timorous beastie' bit, and maybe a couple of other lines!

      • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Pleased you enjoyed it ! The School I went to in Liverpool has Scots Teachers so we were taught how to Pronouce ~ Understand & Enjoy Burns ! Also because we had Scots Relatives (by Marriage) we always has Burns Nights on 25 January. I was in a Scottish Scout Group so we wore kilts and marched withe the Pipes ! 9 am Sunday Morning ~ worse than your singing ! I teach BURNS in Adult Education !

Blessings & Peace to You and Fido
Dont let him hear the Pipes or he'll HOWL all night
        Yours as always ANGELA & BRIAN 🧡🧡🧡🧡 + 🧡

        Great write Brian

      • ANGELA & BRIAN

Pleased you enjoyed it UNCLE MIKE ! I am a great Promotor of BURNS and all the Traditions. For ME his poems in Burns Meter are a perfect example of poetry the always scans & rhymes perfectly. It is a delight to recite ~ even when you are sobre. For most people ~ South of Birmingham ~ the dialect (it is English but no' the Queens !) can be a bit off putting ~ but that is its heart & essence ~ as with the patois in Poems by BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH !

Blessings & love to You & Yours
