She sits in her chair
Lost in he own world,
I glance at her,
The love of my life,
But she is not there.
She then turns and smiles,
She is back for a moment,
But that moment is gone,
Gone in a flash
As her world takes her,
Takes her from me,
This lady who I love.
That love is still there
And always will be,
But the lady that I once loved
Has gone,
Gone into her world,
Her world of dementia.

- Comment from author about the poem: Should be fun at Church today, they are going to be talking about dementia! The chances are I am going to shout my head of telling them how wrong they are or just walk out. Unless you have lived 24/7 with somebody who has dementia you have no idea what it is like. I DO!!

There you go Goldfinch. You know already that the church will just dance around the periphery of the subject, like they do with everything, making polite 'kindness' noises for the detail deaf flock (of sheep). I hope you will not be annoyed by them and i hope im wrong in my prejudice in this instance.
I am sure that you are right d a, I know who is going to be ding the talking and we have crossed swords in the past, I shouldn't really go but do enjoy the singing and it gets Joyce out for a little while. I will let you know what happens. Andy.
I didn’t walk out or shout much but it was a bit of a farce, showing how outsiders treat those with dementia so kindly but nothing about what the careers go through. I did give the preacher this poem at the end of the service though, I still haven’t heard from him but I may see him on Tuesday.
Only a person who has seen it at first hand could write such touching words.
Thank you Michael, so kind.
Andy,
A beautiful, loving write about the love of your life! You are an amazing man!
A great and truthful author’s comment!
My love to Joyce and to you!❤️
~Laura~
Thank you Laura, so very kind.
I do so hope you are wrong.. but suspect you know far better than me ... I guess those who will be doing the talk are well intentioned but are not adequately equipped with first hand experience... A poem filled to the point of overflowing with both love and understandable frustrations.... Neville
Spot on Neville, see my comment above to d a.
comment noted sir
I ain't seen any 'fireworks' at many churches - maybe they are asleep?! But better, that they have true understanding of situations.
Not today but I have started fireworks on other occasions!
To experience a loved one suffering is tormenting indeed, but what is even worse is our helplessness-
Your strength is truly commendable
