MY VILLAGE
It’s a typical village on the whole
but it has no village idiot
so we take it in turns to take on the role
and not one of us needs a work permit.

Can I come and fill in one day please Michael.
Of course you can - as you don't live here you'll need the permit but i can organise that for you.
I am a trustee of our very impressive village hall and this poem reflects a bit of banter at our last meeting. These meetings are often a bit Vicar of Dibblyish and a great source of poetry ideas. I've written a couple of others from the same meeting which I'll post over the week ahead.
That banter at meetings cn be fun but also have serious consequences sometimes.
I used to be on the Church Committee and that got very fraught sometimes as I said it as it was not how it should be. I eventually came to the conclusion that I should not go to Church Committee meetings and have not been to one after my resignation. There is still the AGM which I went to a few weeks ago and once more I told them what was going on, nobody said anything at the meeting but many came up to me afterwards and said I thoroughly agree with you.
Often the case Andy. And often the participants are only there to show how important they are. I was on the local GP Practice patients panel when I retired and assisted with much of their legal paperwork including consent forms, complaints procedures etc. Apart from this the panel had little input and were only there to satisfy the requirements of legislation and the meetings were nothing more than a load of waffle - a total waste of time. When I retired from the panel I never received a thank you for my input nor even a recognition of the fact that had handed in my resignation.
Oh lol, good write and pic M. When's our turn on the idiot rota?!
I'm doing Thursday this week - hoping for good weather.
A charming and smart village. Where is it? UK too?
Actually this my nearest town, Market Harborough, in middle England. It's a lovely town retaining many of the old values. I was actually sitting in the square (in the painting) this morning surrounded by artisan traders - there was a real buzz about the place.
It must be a very nice place. It is beautiful from your painting. Thanks
I'm unemployed because I'm an idiot.
Can I apply - got the right resume!!!!
Do you wear odd socks? If so I'll put your name forward.
U made i larff. Yes we could take up Goldfinch's suggestion and take it in turns to be the visiting fool.
