the shots ring out forever

poetboy123

the shots ring out against the church bells

the shots ring out against a child's laugh

the shots ring out and they do not stop ringing

the shots ring out and they do not stop ringing

the shots ring out and outrage is heard

the shots ring out and tears flow freely

the shots ring out and blood flows freely

the shots ring out and they ring freely

the shots ring out and excuses are conjured

the shots ring out and illusionists speak

the shots ring out and mental illness is blamed

the shots ring out and none take responsibility

the shots ring out and the NRA scrambles together

the shots ring out and cunning Fox weaves a narrative

the shots ring out and outrage is heard

the shots ring out and no action is seen

the shots ring out and burrow into our skull

the shots ring out and burn into our eyes

the shots ring out and imprint into our memories

the shots ring out only to be forgotten

the shots ring out only to be forgotten

the shots ring out until the return

the shots ring out in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, and Gilroy, California, and in the past and in the future and in yesterday and in tomorrow

the shots ring out forever

  • Comment from author about the poem: I live in Texas. I haven't been alive for very long. Yet, I remember this reaction after every shooting. But I can never seem to remember what was done about it. Thoughts and prayers aren't enough. Thoughts and prayers do not stop bullets. And they never will.

  • ANGELA & BRIAN

Thanks for sharing Friend and having th courage to speak out against the idiotic GUN LAWS in the USA ! There are 330 million Americans and 330 million GUNS loose on the Streets. When I visited a Gun Shop in ALABAMA I was physically sick and I was 32. Until GUNS are BANNED there will be more & more mass shootings ! In the USA there are 100 times more DEATH by GUN per 10,000 of the population than in the UK. Our Countries are similar (I love Texas) the only difference is that GUNS ARE BANNED in the UK. In the main our POLICE (and CRIMINALS) do not carry GUNS. With a GUNG-HO President like TRUMP there is little chance of a repeal ! In MASS SHOOTINGS in the USA it is always the innocent who suffer. If I was an American Citizen I would seek to raise awareness of the Stupidity and Danger of the GUN LAWS and spend my life seeking to ban them. Its not just Homicide in the USA it is also Suicide is much easier & complete if you have a GUN. I would begin by closing all GUN STORES Nationwide ~ calling an amnesty for People to hand in their GUNS and then making possession of a GUN of any sort ILLEGAL ! You live in Texas a Frontier State with Mexico ~ Do you have a GUN ~ have you ever needed or wanted a GUN ? Most Americans I have spoken to (who have GUNS) say they have them just in case they confront an Armed Criminal etc even though the chances are less than 1000 to 1. That is the problem because ANY PERSON with a GUN is liable to use it foolishly on himself or his neighbour when He is DRUNK or ANGRY or UNDER STRESS ! I rest my case !

    Yours BRIAN !

Absolutely! The propaganda surrounding gun usage centers around the gun manufacturers that stand to profit from gun sales. After the Parkland shooting, Florida passed gun control laws only for the NRA to immediately push back against these safety measures after only 6 months! Thank you very much for all the information you give in this comment Brian!

I cannot add anything more to what Brian wrote. I agree with all he has said.

Thank you Gold, we cannot allow these deaths to be forgotten as they have been before.

Shots ring out and the NRA coffers continue to swell. Trump said the shooting must stop. Not if the guns aren't stopped. America may be quickly running out of its quota of thoughts and prayers. How sad.

Thankfully, the NRA is beginning to show cracks. Several advertisers have been pulling away, and some politicians are beginning to withdraw their support. The NRA does not represent gun owners, it represents gun manufacturers. Thoughts and prayers not backed by action are useless.

It is so sad...all these shootings. The people who do this, I believe, do not need punishment, but need real help. For too long authorities just throw em in jail and call it good, or even give them the death penalty. Of course when these people show no remorse or signs of wanting to change it is hard and probably makes it seem hopeless...but I dont think that justifies just giving up on these hurting people.
