white rabbits

dusk arising

white rabbits september
may you bring peace and joy
with your last of warm sunshine
let us hear joy and laughter
on our streets and parklands
and enjoy shaded havens
neath autumn leaves
pleasure us before october
breezes winters chill evenings

  • Comment from author about the poem: On the first day of each month my father would say \\\"white rabbits\\\" which was a tradition handed down withing his family. Strange traditions involving white rabbits appear abound in U.K. surrounding the new months beginning.... i must google for the \\\"why\\\" of it someday.... maybe you readers have your own traditions for each months onset... let me know in a few words please.... it would be great to see just how far these traditions have gone and how varied they have become.

Lovely words. Embracing the new seasons and you make it sound so magical and comforting. I too say white rabbits, three times, on the first day of a new month. Strange isn't it?

    Take care

Thanks for posting this poetic reminder of how to greet today's incoming of September - -Oh I remember white rabbits well - - my junior school teacher used to tell us to chant as we jumped out of bed on the first day of any month - - WHITE RABBITS three times........ I have never forgotten and even now some months remember to say it....
Hah - strange little habits I agree D.A.

Love this - you've got me saying 'White Rabbits'. Angoras? My tradition on the first day of each month is to check the bank balance.

Maybe we can say that on a certain day of the week, or why not every day of our lives - nothing to lose, but surely every thing to gain
    It's all in our attitude

September, the beginning of autumn, my favourite time of the year where nature's palette covers her world with glorious colours.
