Peace Proferred

orchidee

Tune: Tallis' Evening Hymn

('All praise to thee, my God this night')

Luke 10 v.5-10 part

*******

Jesus did send out seventy

In pairs His witnesses to be

Whatever house they entered, there

To seek to share a blessing fair

To say 'Peace be to this house' here

We bring good tidings, need not fear

Save in that fear of reverence

Of the Lord, it fear in that sense

If peaceful ones do there abide

Your peace offered will there reside

But if not, fret not, for it be

Your peace shall return to you, see

Go in Christ's name, teach, preach, and heal

Share kingdom of God, and appeal

For folk to turn to Him and so

His love and goodness they shall know

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. Our peace proferred is not lost, even if it's not accepted by others. It returns to us, not wasted, not trampled upon. Not only staying in the sanctuary of our hearts, but given out, shared with others, and returning there if not received by them.
