Here is what I cannot fathom:
If god is all and evermore
why would he follow
any treasured church?
Why would you
love a god to fear?
trust a god indifferent?
or be guided in his whispers?
If he is and has been
source and architect
why assume he means
a plan that is for us?
I conclude he either:
is bright and refuses the altar;
smites so deserves no power;
or is not but our will to follow.
In any case, I am free
to be the best version of me
for the sole purpose
of earning my sleep.

You are right to question the man made traditions of god worship. When we know that the Roman Catholic church is the wealthiest organisation on the planet and are mindful of the bible teaching "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven" there does appear to be convenient dual standards at work.
Keep questioning.
That is the whole point, there is no point in questioning, just live your best life and let the discussion for people that have nothing else to do. 😉
One day you may realise there are answers. But answers will not arrive without questions.
I am with you on this - a fine write on a difficult subject.
As many on this site know I have recently gone through a transformation in giving up christianity, I believe that the religion applied to worship is so untrue and just do not trust it. My belief in My Spirit has not failed but your words are so true. I too am free to be the best version of me now that I have shed those religious beliefs (constraints?).
I am so glad that this poem has found you, it seems to have touch where it should. Finding answers in life is hard, specially if there is no one book to guide, but where is the fun in knowing all and the use of life if you come with instructions? I hope you find peace in this new stage of yourself, faith in more grounded things like love and nature and yet keep a good feeling towards your old faith, you will need to keep yourself balanced.
