AS AUTUMN TURNS

Michael Edwards

AS AUTUMN TURNS

How grey the slippery pathways lie

on days like this when affluent rain

falls heavy on the thirsty land.

See how the  watery rays of  light

turned silver plated in the mist

reflect upon the heath topped hills

which dip their feet in shining seas

where  silk white stallions dance.

Listen to the  keening winds

as lanyards tap and squawking gulls

sweep low across the paynes grey waves.

  • Comment from author about the poem: In case you're not familiar - Paynes Grey is a popular blue-grey in the watercolour palette. And forgive the painting which doesn't really complement the poem but it is especially included here for dear Laura.

I can see your words in my mind, wonderful.

Wonderful painting, intriguing to look at. Are those two figures in the doorways half way up the steps?

    • Michael Edwards

Not intended to be figures but if that is how the eye sees them then that's a bonus - thanks Andy.

A fine write and pic M. Snail-saving season again - or seasons. It may happen in more than one season. Them snails journey across the 'motorway' of life, i.e. crossing paths in damp weather.
We can pick them up and speed them on their way, so they are not crunched underfoot.

      • Michael Edwards

I gather them up as often as I can and return them to the hedgerows - probably the same ones over and over again.

A read to remember and save -- your verse had me spell-bound and that painting I have called Mystery is fabulous. Must see and read this posting again.......

You do me a real honour Fay - the painting is called Venetian Interior.

I also use hookers green quite regularly - mixes so well with other colours for some lovely subtle greens. I envy your sail - I'm still hobbling and beginning to get quite frustrated but time will heal.
