What a fine evening it was,
Sitting there listening,
Listening to The Proms.
Smetana started the evening.
The Bartered Bride came along,
Showed her beauty,
In the sounds of the music.
Then came Pyotr,
Tchaikovsky by name.
An aria sang by a glorious soprano
Filled me with delight.
Theses were just the starters,
The main was to come.
A fraught symphony
Showing the pain of his life
As he came to the fore
In the Russia of old,
Shostakovich showed them,
Showed them that music had power,
Such wonderful power.
There was I in the dimmed light,
Music surrounding me,
Poetry being read,
And a fine malt being sipped.
For what more could I ask?

A fine write and fine evening Gold. Who is that S...โฆ character who would ruin it all? I keep forgetting the name. I need to forget it, you say?!
Shostakovitch was a Russian Composer that had issues with the Communist Hierarchy in the USSR but they did accept him eventually. I have all his symphonies - 15, all his string quartetes - 15 and various other works that he wrote.
It's another person with surname S - the one you love to hate!
I think you maybe lucky enough for what more could you ask for. It's all there burstsing with the sound of music. That fine evening must have beeen a joyous one...
Thank you Kevin, yes it was a fine evening.
Nothing more to ask at all - I recall the concert - great music - and I had a bottle of wine.
Yes it was a good concert, wine or malt enhances the beauty of the evening.
I too had a magical experience with music in the night as per my poem today.
Yes your piece speaks of the bliss when one is lost in ones personal pleasures of music and the comfort of a good malt. Brings to mind how sophisticated a part of our existence truly is... the technical wizardry of audio systems and the sheer beauty of the man made sounds reaching our ears from instruments lovingly made by craftsmen's hands.
What wonderful words d a, and so very true.
what a fine combination, the perfect evening.. music and poetry.... a tantalizing twosome....
and ta for the telling Goldie... Neville
It was that Neville, thank you.
ANGELA HERE (9:30pm Tuesday) - Good Morning Uncle Andy - Excellent Music and a fine Programme (and a fine Malt) you describe ! If I had not trained to be a PHYSIO I would have loved to have been a classical Pianist. Brians DAD has an upright Grand and he is an excellent Pianist ! My Parents have a MUSIC ROOM with a BABY GRAND and encouraged me to play from the age of FIVE. I love to play duets (Guitar & Piano) with Brian ! For us Classical Music & Rioja is the FOOD & BEVERAGE of LOVE - we are so so blessed when we are together. When we can afford a big enough House we will have a dedicated Music Room with a Baby Grand. When BRIAN becomes Head of Science ~ AMEN ! Please check my POEM today - BAREFOOT in ANDALUCIA - The making of a SENORITA !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & JOYCE
Love ANGELA & BRIAN ๐งก๐๐งก๐๐งก
